    UW's** **_Housing & Food Services (HFS)_** **has an outstanding opportunity for a** **Temporary Cook** **to join their team.

     

    _*Multiple Positions will be hired on this posting._

     

    Housing & Food Services supports over 10,000 student residents and operates 40+ dining locations on campus. With a team of over 1,200 staff and students, HFS is dedicated to enhancing student life through teamwork and excellent service.

    POSITION PURPOSE

    Work as a key team member in a dynamic, high volume food production environment with other full time and student employees. Typical work includes preparing proteins, vegetables, fruits, starches and sauces supporting multiple types of international cuisines.

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

    + Using CBORD recipes and specifications, prepare menu items including proteins, vegetables, fruits, starches, and sauces.

    + Marinate, grill, roast, griddle and carve proteins; steam vegetables and starches.

    + Review recipes and consult with the unit’s designated culinarian (Sous Chef, Manager, or Chef de Cuisine) to confirm production goals and service needs. Seek prior approval before deviation from assigned recipes and specifications

    + Perform display cooking to customer order, plating according to established standards and answering questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing.

    + Organize work to meet daily production goals and service needs.

    + Guide the work of classified and student food service staff.

    + Monitor prepared foods for compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including taking and recording food temperatures before the food leaves the production area.

    + Participate in cleaning the kitchen’s tables and equipment using sanitizing solutions as needed.

    + Ensure that all foods used for the meal are properly wrapped, dated, labeled and stored before the close of the shift.

    + Ensure that all items in walk-in and in other storage areas are properly labeled and rotated correctly. Work with other staff members to ensure that this is being completed.

    + Maintain records of foods produced, foods wasted, and any recipe adjustments for the culinary leadership.

    + Inspect food service equipment to determine proper care, use and operation; report malfunctions to the culinary leadership.

    • Continuously clean and maintain order of workstation and prep areas, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing.

    + Ensure that security and safety requirements are met; follow up with staff and supervisor on any issues.

    + Consult with culinary leadership to address requests to accommodate dietary restrictions.

    + Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

    + May operate point of sale system, accurately key in sales and take payment. Maintain compliance with all PCI training requirements and standards.

    • Perform related duties as requested.

    POSITION DIMENSIONS

    There are 9-month or 11.5-month cyclic positions available. These positions are located at various UW Dining venues. Schedules may be changed with two weeks’ notice.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment AND one year of experience preparing and serving food and maintaining clean work area.

     

    _Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration_ .

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience using email, menu management systems, Microsoft Word and Excel.

    + Familiarity with menu management systems.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    + A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.

    + Maintenance of a valid Washington State Food Worker Card.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $44,256.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $54,732.00 annual
