Ithaca College's Roy H. Park School of Communications is seeking a highly-qualified candidate to serve as Associate Dean.
The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction in the administrative and academic affairs of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, and coordinate the development, planning, and assessment of curricular and co-curricular learning, facilities and technology to ensure the delivery of outstanding student learning opportunities and experiences.
Primary responsibilities will be (a) curriculum and program development and management — designing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and managing curricular programs; (b) faculty affairs management – oversight and support of chairs and program directors in their efforts to manage faculty and developing policies, procedures, and systems to support faculty development. This includes conducting comprehensive data analysis in preparing and evaluating course schedules, allocating faculty workloads, and tracking faculty staffing, facility and resource budget projections.
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean serves as a key leader in the Park School and is responsible for maintaining smooth, efficient and effective college operations. The Associate Dean provides leadership and oversight for: program quality, academic personnel, assessment, faculty and student success, facilities planning and management, safety and university relations. The Associate Dean assists with strategic planning and implementation of initiatives related to the mission and vision of the School and the College. The Associate Dean helps the Dean to establish and maintain a professional, positive, collegial, collaborative culture throughout the College.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Provide academic and professional leadership in supporting faculty, co-curricular advisers and the Park-designated career engagement specialist in the development and modification of curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities; conduct benchmarking and research on communications content and new pedagogical methods and instructional technologies and identify and coordinate potential new degree and non-degree offerings.
+ Work in collaboration with faculty and chairs to prepare new degree and new course proposals and modifications of curricula for both undergraduate and graduate programs and for non-credit professional instruction. Coordinate and monitor reviews through appropriate bodies such as the New York State Department of Education and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Serve on curriculum-related committees at the School and all-College level.
+ Provide leadership and support for assessment of curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities within the School, ensuring compliance with required assessment standards and periodic external reviews and accreditation.
+ Help ensure compliance with policies and procedures, research issues, analyze institutional data, prepare reports, make recommendations for changes in policy or procedures, and handle confidential problems that arise at the school.
+ Assist in the management of faculty recruitment, hiring, and development. Mentor and support faculty development, supervision and evaluation for teaching excellence, scholarly or creative activity and professionalism.
+ Assist the Dean in faculty promotion, tenure and sabbatical evaluations, compiling reports and analyzing evaluation data as needed.
+ Coordinate the development of course schedules with various campus offices (e.g.) Provost, Registrar, etc. for each semester and summer/winter session and prepare faculty and facility assignments. Conduct comprehensive data analysis and develop projections and budgets for future semesters.
+ Serve as a liaison between faculty, co-curricular advisers, and technical operations staff to coordinate the planning and integration of courses and degree programs, co-curricular activities, non-credit workshops, facilities planning and maintenance, and technology purchases to include the development and enforcement of policies regarding facilities and equipment use and risk management protocols.
+ Play a key role in student success through recruitment, enrollment, retention and academic support. Liaison with the Academic Support Center and Admissions/Enrollment Management.
+ Provide operational support for events (e.g.) faculty/staff retreats and special projects as needed. Applicants must be highly skilled at making public presentations (e.g.) admissions and alumni events, and comfortable representing the college at various events.
+ Serve on the Dean’s Office team, and other school and college-level committees as appropriate; represent the Dean on committees and at College administrative meetings when requested. Assume specific responsibilities of the Dean in their absence. Perform duties supporting operational activities of the Dean’s office as needed and appropriate, including supervision of some Dean’s Team members.
+ Support the dean in the identification and pursuit of new funding opportunities to support faculty and student research and creative activity; administer the assignment of internal grants and school-based scholarships. Participate in coordinating the distribution of resources supporting faculty, staff and student.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in communications, or related field with successful college teaching experience, demonstrating excellence in the classroom. A minimum of 5 years administrative experience in a college or university environment with supervisory responsibilities. Demonstrated collegial style of leadership, plus ability to assess critical situations and carry out appropriate actions on behalf of the college. Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment. Ability to work with individuals and groups across departments and schools and serve as an effective liaison and leader, and exercise discretion and judgment in sensitive and confidential matters.
Proven experience in the development, administration, and assessment of college curricula and United States accreditation procedures and policies. Demonstrated success in identifying and responding to trends and developing practices in undergraduate, graduate, and professional education in the broad field of communications as represented by the Park School. Experience in administering academic programs, budgets, curriculum assessment, and instructional technology. Proficiency in the use of various applicable software applications and data analysis tools and methods. Ability to represent the School of Communications within the College and with external constituencies.
Work Environment:
Most of the work of the new hire is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment. The successful candidate will be required to use a personal computer and associated equipment as well as other office equipment used in the day-to-day operations. The hire may need to deliver various materials on campus requiring the ability to walk or drive or make other travel arrangements.

Hiring Range:
$105,000-$115,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
