    San Diego, CA, United States

Join Our Hardware R&D Team: Engineering Interns Wanted for a Summer of Innovation!

Ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into hands-on engineering projects? Our Hardware R&D team is where ideas turn into real-world solutions. As a summer intern, you’ll help design, build, and test hardware that powers the future of healthcare. We’re a friendly bunch who love sharing knowledge and supporting each other—and we can’t wait to meet someone as curious and ambitious as you!

What you’ll be up to during your 10-12 week adventure:

+ Design and create test fixtures, manufacturing tools, and instrument hardware using CAD software (Solidworks is our go-to!).

+ Build and assemble prototype parts using 3D printing and machine shop equipment—yes, you get to make stuff!

+ Crunch the numbers with tolerance analyses, FEA, and statistical methods to help us perfect our designs.

+ Develop and write automation code for mechanical, optical, and electrical testing (Python, JMP, or Matlab skills come in handy).

+ Summarize your findings in clear technical reports and presentations, and share your work with senior leadership at the end.

    Who we’re hoping to meet:

    + You can work full-time during the summer (May/June - August/September).

+ You’re currently working on your Bachelor’s degree, with at least one semester left after the internship.

+ Your major is Mechanical, Biomedical, or a related engineering field.

+ You’re heading into your junior or senior year.

+ You know how to get your point across, whether you’re writing or speaking.

+ You’ve dabbled with CAD software (Solidworks is a plus).

+ You’re not afraid of rapid prototyping, laser cutting, or hands-on machine shop tools.

+ Programming in Python, LabVIEW, or Matlab makes you feel right at home.

+ You’re always ready to learn new technical skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Location, pay & other important details:

+ You can work onsite at our San Diego, CA campus. Heads up: intern housing, relocation, and housing stipends aren’t provided, so you’ll need to have your living situation and transportation sorted out.

+ Pay range: $22 - $28 per hour, based on your class standing and operational function.

+ The chance to work with a team that’s genuinely invested in your growth.

+ Networking, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities—all designed to help you thrive.

Take your internship to the next level at Hologic!

When you join Hologic as a Summer Intern, you’re not just clocking in for a job—you’re jumping into a global team full of motivated, creative, and dedicated people (basically, your future favorite coworkers). This is your chance to shine, show off what you know, and bring your energy and ideas to projects that make a real difference for people all over the world.

On top of hands-on experience in your field, our College Relations team will hook you up with opportunities to learn about the company, meet leaders, and build the skills you’ll need to launch your career. Consider this your backstage pass to the future of healthcare innovation.
