    ASPIRUS ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL in Duluth, MN is seeking a TECHNICAL SPECIALIST TRANSFUSION SRVC to join our CLINICAL LAB team!

     

    Salary Range: $31.70 - $45.99 Hourly

     

    Schedule/Hours: VARIED (ALL) SHIFTS, 8 hours

    Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend

    FTE: FULL TIME, 1.000000 FTE

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Technical Specialist-Transfusion Services in blood bank technology performs both routine and specialized tests in blood center and transfusion services, using methodology that conforms to the Standards for Blood Centers and Transfusion Services of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). Coordinates activities with other members of the laboratory team. Performs routine laboratory work.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Education: Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.

    + Experience: Two (2) years experience as an MLS or MLT in the specialty of transfusion services in the last five (5) years.

    + Licensure/Certification/Registration: Board Certified as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS or MT), must obtain ASCP certification as Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) within thirty (30) months of hire into this position.

    + Licensure/Certification/Registration: Specialist, Blood Bank (ASCP).

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Excellent communication skills; ability and desire to teach; ability to investigate and resolve questions and problems; knowledge of or the ability to obtain technical knowledge of particular laboratory transfusion medicine within a reasonable period of time; ability to objectively evaluate technical equipment and methodologies.

     

    + READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

    + WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.

    + SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    + MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    + REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
