Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking an MRI Advanced Imaging Technologist to join our team!
As an integral part of daily operations in the MRI department, the MRI Advanced Imaging Technologist will: p rovide leadership and expertise for performing MRI cardiac and advanced imaging protocols; vascular imaging services; and collaborate with MRSO on protocoling and implant research and investigation for MRI safety. This is accomplished by working alongside Radiologists, MRSO, and MRI Technologists in imaging services, as well as providers and customers across the Aspirus enterprise through coordinated and supportive work efforts.
The MRI Advanced Imaging Technologist works to meet performance measures, patient and customer satisfaction, clinical quality benchmarks, and operational financial targets. This specialist also complies with and participates in maintaining an environment which supports Aspirus philosophy and values.
HOURS: Full Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every pay period. Varied shifts/start times and will participate in call and holiday rotation.
Experience/Qualifications
+ Knowledge of radiology standards and procedures as they relate to radiology and MRI and knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy normally acquired through education or on the job training.
+ Bachelor’s degree is desirable.
+ Knowledge of the following is highly desired: cardiac flow, ejection and regurgitant fractions, valve anatomy, variations and common pathology that may be displayed in cardiac and vascular anatomy; or a willingness to learn on the job within 12 months of hire.
+ Willingness to continue to be involved in education to update skills and knowledge base as it pertains to cardiac and vascular imaging in MRI scanning and 3D image post-processing techniques with the goal of remaining up to date with current trends and technologies.
+ Two years of hands-on professional experience in general and cardiovascular MRI, plus experience with advanced image post processing.
+ Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire - All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) training through independent study, online manikin and knowledge testing. An acceptable training program is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED. + Current ARRT MRI registry certification or ARMRI certification to be completed within two years of hire strongly encouraged.
+ Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography, ARRT(R); or ARRT(R) eligible with registry certification obtained within three months of hire. ARRT registry desired.
+ Working knowledge of PACS, RIS and EMR applications.
+ Ability to work closely with others in a professional fashion while developing protocols and processes, and training personnel.
+ Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with radiologists and other imaging staff as well as non-imaging departments across the hospital and clinic settings including ordering physicians and providers.
+ Interpersonal skills are sufficient to interact with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
+ Trains technologists in new scanning processes, post-processing protocols, and anatomy/physiology associated with cardiac and vascular image acquisition, processing and evaluation. Provides input and support to assist MRI technologists as needed.
+ Works with Radiologists, modality leaders and other imaging staff to define, refine and develop the cardiovascular MRI program. This includes but is not exclusive to: protocol development for scanning and image post-processing; exam development and customization for complex patient needs; scan trials; implementation rollouts; process improvement; staff training; proper use of power injectors and timing techniques; and application of radiation control techniques.
+ Maintains and expands the use of post-processing of cardiac and vascular images to fulfill clinical needs in MRI. For example, calculation of ejection fractions, aortic valve evaluation, and processing and analysis of flow studies.
+ Assured patients are properly scheduled and prepared for the cardiac and vascular procedures performed in the imaging department. This is done by helping to define exam and patient criteria for exam appropriateness, evaluating medical history, screening patients for contrast media injections and modality compatibility, obtaining the correct physician referral, managing office expectations, and, when necessary, assuring correct exam authorization for insurance purposes.
+ Responsible for the clearance of all active MR Conditional implants (ex., pacemakers, bone growth stimulators, vagal nerve stimulators) in collaboration with the MRSO and MRI technologists.
+ Coordinates with other departments ensuring that patients are scheduled and exams protocoled correctly.
+ Interacts with referring specialty providers to understand how imaging services can work to fulfill their clinical needs or create protocols in relation to proper imaging and post-acquisition image evaluation.
+ Attends hospital conferences to enhance learning and to understand the needs of providers and radiologists including needs surrounding patient care; clinical outcomes; pathology; and image acquisition requirements to provide necessary information to clinicians. Conferences may include Cardiac and TAVR, and others as the need arise.
+ Collaborates with radiologists and clinicians to refine and expand cardiac/vascular imaging applications in MRI and advanced MRI image post processing.
+ Works with the Imaging Informatics and EMR teams to update and manage all MRI imaging orders to improve ordering process for providers.
+ Alongside the MRSO, Imaging Informatics team, Aspirus IT and the vendor, assures proper functioning of the 3D image post-processing application including moving images between applications (e.g., PACS and 3D application),and testing and maintaining optimal performance of the 3D application. •
+ Performs venipuncture for administration of IV contrast per policy.
+ Assumes responsibility for accurate patient information on all images and documents in the EMR and PACS.
+ Enters post procedure information into the EMR system to assure an accurate billing and radiology history for each patient.
+ Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs.
+ Ensures necessary maintenance and repairs are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
+ Seeking education and maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading journals and other literature, and attend conferences as requested by department leadership.
+ Familiarity with use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
+ Superior written and oral communication skills.
+ Strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently.
