Summary About the Position: The position provides both technical and administrative supervision for the Railroad Maintenance Vehicle Operators, carrying full supervisory authority. Responsibilities Plan distribution prescribing deadlines and sequence of work on a day-to-day or project-to-project basis for subordinates. Explain work requirements, methods, procedures, specific hazards, and safety precautions to personnel. Develop performance standards, counsel employees on performance, and make formal and informal performance appraisals. Operate various railroad maintenance equipment, such as tie tamper, tie inserter, railroad track liner, on and off-track railway crane, mobile spiking machine, ballast regulator, and spike puller. Ensure all personnel follow established safety rules and regulations. Ability to Lead or Supervise Ability to Operate Safely (Non-motor Vehicles) Ability to Plan and Organize Work Managing Human Resources Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Transportation and Distribution Management Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade NTE 1 Year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
