    Distribution Technician

    Job Description

    This position involves the detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems. The role requires the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates. The candidate should possess analytical competence to effectively interact with a variety of individuals, including engineers and experienced distribution system designers.

    Responsibilities

    + Independently design and prepare construction orders related to overhead and underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems, applying prescribed standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.

    + Apply industry standards and the client's guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures in preparing layouts of electric distribution facilities.

    + Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bills of materials, and any other required documents and reports for construction and maintenance projects.

    + Assist in performing load studies on distribution transformers and investigate circuit overloads and voltage complaints to determine necessary corrective actions.

    + Negotiate agreements for Rights of Way (easements) for proposed utility equipment with landowners and/or their agents, and obtain necessary contact and tax map information for easement processing.

    + Prepare and submit required reports and correspondence.

    + Assist in acquiring field data and gathering information from field notes.

    + Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying, and scanning of drawings, prints, and maps.

    + Utilize company information systems to track and update design activities.

    + Adhere to the Code of Safe Practices as outlined in the company's safety policies.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience in utility construction and distribution

    + Proficiency in utility locating and subsurface utility engineering

    + Knowledge of distribution engineering and surveying

    + Proficiency in Civil 3D software

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + High school diploma required

    + Ability to work outdoors in all seasons

    Work Environment

    This role offers the opportunity to help establish an office in Iowa for a leading third-party utility engineering firm. The position requires outdoor work in various weather conditions.

     

    Pay

     

    $20-25/hr plus overtime

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
