    Heavy Equipment Operator – Underground Utilities

     

    Schedule: Full-Time (40+ hrs), start ~6:30 AM

     

    About the Job

     

    We’re a family-owned civil contractor with 75+ years in the business. Join our tight-knit crew (no separate dirt vs. utilities teams) and operate John Deere 470 Excavators and 624 Loaders on underground utility projects. Most of our fleet is newer (Hitachi, John Deere, Cat, Komatsu), but not GPS-enabled—so you’ll need to run equipment without 2D GPS.

    What You’ll Do

    + Operate JD 470 Excavators & 624 Loaders for trenching, excavation, backfill, and pipe work (water, sewer, storm).

    + Read plans, dig to line/grade, protect existing utilities.

    + Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance.

    + Load trucks, manage spoils, and keep the site organized.

    + Follow trench safety, traffic control, and OSHA standards.

    + Work as part of one team, help where needed.

    What We’re Looking For

    + 3+ years (6,240+ hrs) operating excavators/loaders (preferably JD 470 or 624).

    + Underground utilities experience on civil projects.

    + Ability to operate without GPS.

    + Strong plan reading and grade setting skills.

    + Safety-first mindset; trenching & OSHA knowledge.

    + Reliable transportation; ready for overtime.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fountain, CO.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
