    Summary Description:The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support and guidance to students, families,teachers, and staff and addressing systematic social and emotional issues that arise within the schoolcommunity. The candidate should be passionate about working with children of all ages and have apatient and positive demeanor.

     

    Position Description: Our School Counselor is responsible for advising and counseling students regarding academic,educational, and short-term social and emotional problems. The School Counselor is universallyaccessible and provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students andtheir families regarding emotional matters. The selected candidate should want to contribute to theschool community by sharing their passions and participating in school functions, professionaldevelopment, and other special activities. The School Counselor works closely with the Associate Headof School and faculty.

    Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

    ? Individual and small group meetings with students to address various needs (friendship, anxiety,anger, etc.)

    ? Classroom observation of students to assist the teachers in supporting students

    ? Collaboration with faculty and Associate Head of School in the creation, implementation andadaptation of social-emotional curriculum for students (both formal and informal)

    ? Co-teaching in the classroom when appropriate on social-emotional learning topics

    ? Lead the review and implementation of Learning Support Plans to address needs of students

    ? Ongoing communication with families of students, including assistance for families in findingappropriate outside support

    ? Collaboration with faculty on homework load, grade-level expectations, student concerns, etc.

    ? Provide consultation for school staff regarding behavioral health needs (asappropriate)

    ? Provide behavioral health support within a multi-tiered intervention framework and engage inschool-wide prevention and intervention activities

    ? Communication and collaboration with therapists and other outside professionals who workwith STJES students

    ? Compliance with STJES policies/procedures outlined in the personnel handbook

    ? Involvement in school-wide events (assemblies, open houses, etc.)Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree with experience preferred in school guidance counseling or social work and masteryof skills/content/understandings of counseling and developmental stages of children in Preschool - 8thgrade. Master’s Degree preferred.
