The Senior Technical Traineris responsible for analyzing; designing, developing, implementing and evaluating high quality technical training programs for Bus Maintenance personnel. The incumbent will provide instruction for all facets of the bus maintenance and repair processes including, but not limited to: Mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, air-conditioning electrical and electronic maintenance activities associated with transit bus vehicles to ensure safety, improve reliability, and maintain cost effectiveness of the fleet.
This position will establish a six (6) month eligibility pool for current and future openings. It will remain open until all positions are filled. Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis.
What you would do in this job
+ Design and develop course outlines, syllabi, performance objectives, student guides, classroom slides, lab exercises, performance support tools and evaluation documents
+ Deliver technical training to maintenance personnel at local facilities for all three shifts Continually evaluate course effectiveness and update materials as needed
+ Create project plans and manage multiple priorities with multiple deadlines
+ Prepare the classroom, equipment, training modules, materials etc. prior to class
+ Maintain/organize materials and equipment both inside and outside the classroom
+ Provide technical support to maintenance technicians upon request
+ Act as supervisor to students during classroom hours
+ Seek out industry trends on new training tools and strategies
+ Act as Garage Supervisor as needed
+ Conduct pre-hire testing for internal and external maintenance candidate's
+ Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering, Management, Business Administration, Transportation or closely related field; AND at least two (2) years of technical work experience (related to the department/area of assignment, e.g. rail vehicle maintenance, bus or truck technologies, automotive technologies, or similar), and at least two (2) years in technical training or instruction, reporting into a technical/mechanical training department with a focus on course development, instructional design, adult learning concepts as well as delivery of training. One year supervisory, lead worker or project management required.
OR
Associate degree in Education, Engineering, Management, Business Administration, Transportation or closely related field; AND at least three (3) years of technical work experience (related to the department/area of assignment, e.g. rail vehicle maintenance, bus or truck technologies, automotive technologies, or similar), and at least three (3) years in technical training or instruction, reporting into a technical/mechanical training department with a focus on course development, instructional design, adult learning concepts as well as delivery of training. High School diploma or GED; AND at least four (4) years of technical work experience (related to the department/area of assignment, e.g. rail vehicle maintenance, bus or truck technologies, automotive technologies, or similar), and at least four (4) years in technical training or instruction, reporting into a technical/mechanical training department with a focus on course development, instructional design, adult learning concepts as well as delivery of training. One year supervisory, lead worker or project management required.
In addition : Participation and successful completion of a Metropolitan Council leadership development/supervisory training program (graduate of the STEP program, Supervisor Training and Education Program) or Leadership Academy may substitute for lead or supervisory experience.
License Requirement:
+ Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
+ Ability to get class "A" commercial driver's license within six months of employment.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
+ Knowledge of bargaining unit agreements
+ Knowledge of maintenance and repair of Cummins diesel engines, Allison EV drives, Allison, Voith and ZF transmissions, pneumatic, hydraulic, steering, suspension, AC/DC electrical systems, multiplexing systems, HVAC systems and analog and digital electronics
+ Knowledge of adult learning principles and their application
+ Knowledge of training needs assessment methods
+ Knowledge of heavy duty vehicle maintenance principles and methods
+ Basic knowledge of learning management systems, maintenance anagement systems and Adobe
+ Knowledge of current audio visual equipment use and care
+ Knowledge of transit bus maintenance
+ Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point applications
+ Knowledge of current audio visual equipment use and care
+ Knowledge of current automobile repair and troubleshooting procedures
+ Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral form
+ Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities simultaneously while working independently
+ Ability to work well with employees and staff at all organizational levels
+ Ability to transfer information from technical documents and troubleshooting guides into training materials and classroom presentations
+ Ability to write reports, memos and business letters.

What your work environment would be:
Work is frequently performed in an indoor environment. However, the position may require occasional outdoor work with exposure to weather conditions. Work may require local travel to conduct training at various facilities. Work occasionally requires out-of-state travel to attend training and conferences. Work is performed periodically near moving parts, vehicles, lifting equipment and occasionally elevated positions. Position may result in exposure to noise, diesel exhaust emissions, welding fumes, and risk of electrical shock. Requires work in varying hours to accommodate all three shifts. Position is regularly required to speak, hear, read, and write and has vision requirements (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors, and ability to adjust focus).
