    Description

    Grinding Room Forklift Operator

     

    Responsible for transporting raw materials to grinding room and removing trash and pallets from grinding room. The Forklift Operator will insure that all raw material will be pulled on a fifo basis, and as allocated on line up sheet or supervised instruction.

     

    All Times Operate forklift in accordance with Golden State Foods forklift operating procedures

     

    40% Transport meat to the grinding room

     

    25% Load and unload vat dumper

     

    5% Notify blender operator of the raw material being used

     

    5% Review products for foreign material and specification compliance

     

    10% Remove containers and pallets from grinding room

     

    10% Responsible for housekeeping in product areas

     

    5% Relieve and perform other

     

    Operate forklift in accordance with Golden State Foods forklift operating procedures. Have a valid Golden State Foods operator's certificate. Good reading, writing and communication skills. Good vision. Good hearing. Good sense of smell. Able to lift 80 pounds. Able to bend, stoop, pull, push, grasp, etc.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    GRINDING ROOM FORKLIFT OPERATOR

    The Grinding Room Forklift Operator is responsible for transporting raw materials to the grinding room and moving trash and pallets from the grinding room.

     

    He/She will pull and stage (assemble and use) raw materials in proper rotation. He/She will be required to lift pallets and empty containers that will weigh 80 lbs. or more.

     

    He/She will be required to have a valid forklift license and operate assigned machinery safely in accordance with the company guidelines.

     

    The job classification is Labor Grade 5.

    JOB DUTIES

    GRINDING ROOM FORKLIFT OPERATOR

    1. Operate forklift in accordance with Golden State Foods forklift operating procedures

    2. Transport meat to the grinding room

    3. Load and unload vat dumper

    4. Notify blender operator of the raw material being used

    5. Review products for foreign material and specification compliance

    6. Remove containers and pallets from grinding room

    7. Responsible for housekeeping in product areas

    8. Relieve and perform other jobs

    DUTY STEPS

    GRINDING ROOM FORKLIFT OPERATOR

    I. OPERATE FORKLIFT IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOLDEN STATE FOODS FORKLIFT OPERATING PROCEDURES

    A. Have A Valid Forklift Operator's License

    B. Responsible For The Safe Operation Of Assigned Forklift

    C. Report Any Operating Or Safety Problems With The Forklift To Your Supervisor

    D. Forklift Battery Charging Procedures

    1. Use assigned battery charger (forklift and chargers are matched by number)

    2. Make sure battery charger is turned "off" before connecting battery cable. Lock forklift battery cable to the charger cable to charge battery. Make sure battery charger is plugged into battery and not to the forklift

    3. Set battery charger to 8 hours or daily when charging

    4. Check water level in battery

    a. Water level should be covering the plates when battery is charged

    b. When battery has a low charge, water level should be at the top of the plates. (Do not add water to battery above plate level)

    5. When removing forklift from battery charger turn off battery charger first

    a. Set charger cables on top of battery charger when not in use

    II. TRANSPORT MEAT INTO GRINDING ROOM

    A. Use Raw Products Line Up List (Exhibit A)

    1. Raw materials are labeled with the following information:

    a. Name of supplier

    b. P.O. or lot number

    c. Quantity

    B. Regrind Will Be Processed When Needed

    1. Fresh ground beef will be shoveled into the coarse ground conveyor when required

    2. Frozen patties will be assembled in regrind tubs that will be transferred to regrind area in the Grinding Room

    a. When dumping regrind tubs do not contaminate product or containers with equipment

    b. After regrind patties are collected, load onto vat dumper when required

    C. Frozen Blocks Shall Be Placed On Or In Front Of Block Lift Platform

    1. Pallets of boxes should not be placed in any other area

    2. There will not be more than two pallets of the same product in the grinding room at any time

    D. Fresh Combos Of Boneless Beef Shall Be Placed In The Southeast Corner Of The Grinding Room

    1. Combos shall be away from the curb and enough space in between to be accessible to review the product

    2. There will not be more than two combos of the same product in the grinding room at any time

    III. LOADING AND UNLOADING VAT DUMPER

    A. Loading Material Requested

    1. Remove combo cover and any other material that may prevent the meat from being emptied from the combo

    a. Fold liner over the outer edge of the combo

    2. Set combo on dumper frame

    a. Do not ram dumper with forks or pallets while loading

    b. Center combo between the two hold down arms

    c. Combo must be placed as close as possible to the rear of the dumper

    3. Set hold down arms on top of combo and tighten "T" bolts to hold it in position

    4. Notify grinder operator that the combo is ready to lift

    B. Unloading Vat Dumper

    1. Remove partially filled combos

    a. Forklift combo away and set it in the holding area

    2. Removing empty combos

    a. Take combo, pallet, and liner to wash room. (Check to assure that there is no remaining meat)

    IV. CONTAINER AND PALLET PROCEDURES

    A. Pallets

    1. Stack pallets in wash room

    2. When pallet stacks are approximately six feet

    B. Fiberboard Combo Containers

    1. Remove liners, flatten them out, and stack them in the cardboard rack

    2. When rack is full, notify outdoor forklift operator for removal

    C. Poly Liners And Straps

    1. Place into waste container

    D. Trash Dumpsters

    1. Boxes and other trash collected in the block area shall be placed in trash dumpster

    2. When dumpster is full, assist blockmen in removing the dumpster to the back dock, and moving an empty dumpster in its place

    E. Empty Poly-Combos

    1. Place empty Poly-combos in wash room

    2. Dispose used liner into trash

    3. Wash container if it is needed

    F. Regrind And Dump Tub Containers

    1. Wash containers when needed

    2. Check all reusable containers after emptying for cleanliness and wash if needed

    V. RELIEVE AND PERFORM OTHER JOBS

    A. Relieve and Do Other Tasks As Assigned

    VI. HOUSEKEEPING

    A. Responsible For Keeping These Areas Clean

    1. Grinding Room

    2. Chill Room

    3. Tempering Room

    VII. NOTIFY BLENDER OPERATOR OF RAW MATERIALS BEING USED

    A. Transport And Use Quality Assurance Sample Materials When Requested

    1. Do not use product with a Quality Assurance hold tag unless advised to by the Quality Assurance tester or supervisor

    B. Inform Grinder Operator If The Material Being Used Is For A Quality Assurance Test

    VIII. REVIEW RAW MATERIALS FOR FOREIGN MATERIAL AND SPECIFICATION COMPLIANCE

    A. Report Product Non-Compliance Items To Supervisor And Quality Assurance Tester
