Senior Systems Librarian / Head of Information Infrastructure & Integration
Description:
We are seeking an experienced Systems Librarian to join our team as Head of Information Infrastructure & Integration. This is a unique opportunity to advance library systems within a leading research institution, shaping a future where NYU Libraries are recognized as innovators in information access and research support.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services, the Head of Information Infrastructure and Integrations will lead a team of seven technologists responsible for optimizing library systems performance and ensuring interoperability across diverse platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of library systems, cloud computing, data analytics, and emerging technologies, coupled with strong leadership, project management, and communication skills. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, adept at navigating the evolving landscape of library technology while fostering a collaborative environment that drives innovation and enhances library services.
This is a full-time Tenure Track Faculty position.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Library Systems Administration: Oversee the configuration, administration, and management of library systems and related infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and optimal performance. This includes the library services platform (Alma/Primo Ve), production environments and data warehouse.
+ Data Analysis and Systems Interoperability: Oversee data exchange and integration from multiple systems within the library and beyond, to maintain systems-level automations and documentation supporting library services.
+ Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of technical professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
+ Technology Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies relevant to libraries and explore innovative solutions to enhance user experience and support research initiatives.
+ Collaboration: Build strong relationships with stakeholders within the Division of Libraries and across the university community, understanding their data needs and working collaboratively to develop effective solutions.

Required :
+ Minimum one graduate degree (master’s level or higher) for consideration. A second graduate degree will be required to be eligible for tenure. One of the two graduate degrees must be an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent.
+ 5+ years of progressively responsible experience managing library technology systems and infrastructure including proven ability to lead and manage technical teams effectively.
+ Demonstrated expertise in Integrated Library Services Platforms (LSP), Electronic Resource Management, and cloud computing environments.
+ Experience with programming languages, and best practices for collaborative coding, version control, comprehensive documentation and code organization.
+ Familiarity with key metadata encoding standards such as MARC, BibFrame, RDA/RDF, Dublin Core, MODS.
+ Familiarity with emerging trends in library technology such as linked data in production and AI-assisted tools.
+ Proven ability to translate technical information into accessible written materials, such as policies, procedures, workflows, and documentation, while effectively collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ Demonstrated leadership skills in managing multi-department projects, applying project management principles such as coordinating tasks, fostering effective communication across teams, budgeting, vendor relations, and resolving interpersonal issues.
Preferred :
+ Degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, or related field.
+ Experience implementing data exchange and integration strategies using cloud technologies relevant to libraries, including Alma, Primo, Azure, AWS, OCLC/WorldCat, and LSPs within consortium environments.
+ Familiarity with digital content protection and exchange standards such as LCP/DRM, OPDS.
+ Proven experience implementing best practices for secure data management and exchange, protecting both data integrity and patron privacy.
+ Experience with single sign-on (SSO) technologies (e.g., Shibboleth, OpenAthens).
+ Experience integrating library systems with public interface including usability and/or user experience testing.
+ Experience integrating library systems with internal and external resource repositories (e.g., resource sharing, print retention, offsite management, institutional repositories).
+ Experience integrating library systems with university administration systems (e.g., learning management, purchasing, financial accounting and reporting).
+ Familiarity with digital preservation including concepts and tools.
+ Proactive in identifying technological issues and emerging opportunities, engaging with standard maintenance, and recommending and implementing appropriate actions.
Salary/Benefits: This position is open rank with faculty status, and includes an attractive benefits package, including five weeks of annual vacation.
The typical beginning annual base salary for a faculty member joining the Division of Libraries as a Full Curator in the academic year 2025-2026 is $110,000.
The typical beginning annual base salary for a faculty member joining the Division of Libraries as an Associate Curator in the academic year 2025-2026 is $100,000.
The typical beginning annual base salary for a faculty member joining the Division of Libraries as an Assistant Curator in the academic year 2025-2026 is $92,000.
The typical beginning annual base salary for a faculty member joining the Division of Libraries as a Library Associate in the academic year 2025-2026 is $92,000.
