The Syracuse Community Health Volunteer plays a vital role in our mission to provide accessible care to all our community. The Patient Engagement Volunteer serves as the "friendly voice" of the health center, reaching out to patients with complex health needs who have not visited us in over a year. The goal is to re-establish a connection and facilitate their return to care.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
+ Excellent verbal communication skills and a warm, empathetic telephone manner.
+ Ability to handle rejection or unanswered calls with resilience.
+ Basic computer literacy (for tracking call outcomes).
+ Comfortable working with diverse, underserved populations.
+ Bilingual skills (Spanish/English, etc.) are highly desirable.
Syracuse Community Health Volunteers must provide health clearance (dated within 12 months) and may be required to complete a background check and provide NYS working papers, if applicable. Training will be provided on Confidentiality & HIPAA Privacy, “Trauma Informed Care” basics on how to speak to vulnerable patients, Telephone skills with objection handling and Key Safety Content.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle objects; controls, reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
