Position Summary:
The CAD Modeler will work within the HLM Survey department and will report to the Project Manager. They will work closely with project team lead's and various project specific groups. The CAD Modeler will process scan data and create CAD drawings to utilize in a variety of ways, including but not limited to, construction sequence planning, proposal, shop drawings, spooling, pre-assembly, and pre-task planning. This position will be fully in-office.
Essential Responsibilities:
CAD Modeling & Documentation
+ Develop high-quality 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings from sketches, scan data, engineering inputs, and design concepts.
+ Optimize models for manufacturability, simulation, and downstream processes.
+ Receive and distribute model files from designers, project team members, and subcontractors.
+ Attend BIM coordination meetings and take and distribute comprehensive and concise meeting minutes.
360 Scanning / Scan-to-CAD Processing
+ Capture 360° scans and 3D laser/structured-light scans using industry-standard scanning equipment and software.
+ Process raw scan data, including cleaning, aligning, stitching, and merging point clouds and mesh files.
+ Convert scan data into accurate CAD models for reverse engineering or reference geometry.
+ Utilize tools for mesh cleanup, surface reconstruction, decimation, and feature extraction.
+ Validate scan-to-CAD accuracy through comparison analysis and deviation reports.
+ Manage scan files, maintain organized datasets, and ensure correct alignment with project coordinate systems.
Collaboration & Project Support
+ Work closely with engineers, designers, and manufacturing teams to ensure models reflect design intent.
+ Support prototype development, tooling design, and production engineering with CAD and scan-based data.
+ Maintain version control and file organization within PDM/PLM systems.
+ Troubleshoot modeling or scan-processing issues and propose solutions.
Physical and Metal Requirements:
+ Standing/Walking/Sitting: workday is combination of standing, walking and sitting.
+ Must be able to climb stairs: 5% of day.
+ Hands/Arms: constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use.
+ Sight: visual acuity in near, mid and far range vision. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination.
+ Hearing: sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone.
+ Speech: sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone.
+ Bending/Twisting: minimal.
+ Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: minimal.
+ Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required.
+ Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments.
+ Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
+ Must be able to plan and organize work.
+ Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction-related documentation and communicate with coworkers.
