    Essential job duties:

    1. Is knowledgeable regarding Hospital and departmental policy, prodedure, and general information. a.Maintains strict observance of rules pertaining to confidentiality of medical information and to the rules regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Records department. b. Recognizes the different departments within the Hospital and how they interact with Medical Records and Cancer Registry. c. Utilizes appropriate reference materials such as Hospital policy manual, department procedure manual, employee handbook, American College of Surgeons data manual, TNM staging manual, etc. d. Exercises tact and diplomacy when working with others. e. Accepts responsibility for additional tasks as assigned.

    2. Demonstrates responsibility for professional growth. a. Communicates effectively with co-workers and supervisors using tact and diplomacy. b. Takes advantage of educational offerings as needed. c. Consults with the supervisor or Director regarding problems, questions, etc. d. Makes suggestions regarding in-service programs, work flow, job satisfaction, etc.

    3. Operates Cancer Registry equipment with knowledge of instructions and care. 4. Understands the case-finding process and eligibility of cases for assignment into the registry system. 5. Understands correlation between the pathology reports, information systems forms, UAP Oncology lectures in absence of coordinator. 6. Accurately documents data from medical record into the abstract system and completes all information needed timely manner. 7. Demonstrated understanding of the master index file in the Impath system as well as obtains follow-up information and accurately records in the Impath system. 9. Demonstrates understanding of computer Atickler system 10. Demonstrates of case classification and accurately identifies non-analytic cases. 11. Prepares documentation from the Tumor Conference, Tumor/Imaging Conference, and the Oncology lectures in absence of coordinator. 12. Prepares documentation from the Oncology Conference in absence of Cancer Registrar. 13. Conducts Cancer Committee meetings and prepares minutes in absence of Cancer Registrar. 14. Completes coding of cancer cases using the ICD-O System and ICD-9-CM accurately and precisely. 15. Is knowledgeable of the Impath Cancer Registry computer system. 16. Demonstrates understanding of Indiana State Department of Health regulations. 17. Demonstrates understanding of Abstracting process for NEW cancer patients.Assessment/Patient Care Management: Coordinates resources and facilitates care into a seam less model of access, compassionate care and support that benefits patients, family members, and participating physicians.

    Education, Training & Experience

    1. Functional grasp of standard written and verbal English, good spelling. 2. Types 35 to 40 wpm. 3. Must meet and deal with variety of people. 4. Completion of the course for Accredited Record Technician and/or successful completion of the examination of Certified Tumor Registrar, required. 5. Flexible schedule to meet the demands of the departmen t.
