    Job Summary

    The Overdose Prevention Engagement Network (OPEN) is a diverse team dedicated to improving lives and reducing harms of substance use. By engaging with individuals, communities, and organizations, the team shares education and resources to strengthen person-centered prevention, treatment, and recovery.

     

    We are seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Specialist specializing in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) to join our interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Behavioral Health Specialist will work on a collaborative care team of prescribing providers, nurse care managers and peer recovery coaches to provide same-day telehealth access to buprenorphine prescribing for Michigan residents with an opioid use disorder. This role requires expertise in evidence-based practices including medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), collaboration with healthcare providers, and a commitment to improving the lives of our patients.

     

    This position is a hybrid position and does require in-office work 2-3 days per a week. Our office is located at the North Campus Research Complex in Ann Arbor. Working hours may change as the Warmline clinic evolves. Current hours are Monday through Friday 8:30AM - 5:00PM

    Responsibilities*

    OPEN Warmline

    + Coordinate access to buprenorphine treatment for eligible Warmline patients with an opioid use disorder.

    + Collaborate with OPEN Warmline clinicians to implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessments and evidence-based practices.

    + Provide brief interventions and crisis management as needed to address acute behavioral health needs related to substance use.

    + Coordinate and schedule telehealth visits with OPEN Warmline clinicians to provide immediate care for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD).

    + Initiate and maintain professional relationships with social service professionals in the regions a patient may be referred for long-term care. This includes prepaid inpatient health plans, community mental health agencies, substance use disorder treatment providers, hospitals, law enforcement, peer support specialists, etc.

    + Develop thorough knowledge of the regional resources to which a patient may be referred.

    + Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

    + Participate in Warmline staff huddles, team meetings, and program development, contributing to the ongoing refinement of the service.

    Partnerships

    + Develop and maintain statewide referral partnerships

    + Advocate for patients by coordinating referrals to community resources, support groups, and specialized services as needed.

    + Collaborate with community and healthcare groups to learn more about their services and see how our program can assist their work to improve the quality of care of patients with substance use disorders (e.g., coalition meetings, task force meetings)

    Trainings and Presentations

    + Provide trainings to providers and clinics in the community around substance use disorder best practice implementation and harm reduction

    + Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and trends in the field of substance use disorder treatment

    Other duties as assigned by supervisor

    + Reporting as required for sponsored funding

    Required Qualifications*

    + Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited institution

    + Licensed or certified in the State of Michigan as a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), with a minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in behavioral health with a focus on substance use disorder treatment.

    + Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and proficiency in clinical documentation.

    + Demonstrated proficiency in conducting behavioral health assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions.

    + Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

    + Knowledge of Michigan state regulations and guidelines related to behavioral health services and substance use disorder treatment.

    + Commitment to cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical practice.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Certification or specialized training in addiction counseling (e.g., CADC, CAADC).

    + Experience working in integrated healthcare settings or with co-occurring disorders.

    + Knowledge of Michigans prepaid inpatient health plans, community mental health agencies, and substance use disorder treatment centers.

    Additional Information

     

    This position is a two-year term limited appointment (with a end date of 9/30/2027), with the potential extension, based on grant funding and performance. At the end of the stated term, the appointment may terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

     

    Union Affiliation

     

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
