    Job Summary

    The Marsal Family School of Education at the University of Michigan seeks a mid-career colleague for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor. This is a School-wide position and the appointment could be made in the Educational Studies (ES), Learning, Equity, and Problem-Solving for the Public Good (LEAPS), and/or Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education (CSHPE) programs.

    Applicants can come from (but are not limited to) the fields of education, the learning sciences, new media ecologies, human-computer interaction, computer science, cognitive science, and neuroscience. Applicants should have a strong scholarly focus on learning and how emerging and advanced technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, virtual/augmented reality) can be developed to effectively support learning across different educational contexts, which can include PreK-12, postsecondary education, out-of-school settings, and workforce development. Applicants should also have experience or strong interest in approaches to disseminate educational technology projects through product design efforts (encompassing user experience design, business and entrepreneurship) so as to extend the reach and access of these projects to larger audiences of learners, educators, and other educational stakeholders.

    Specifically, we seek a scholar whose research has focused on the development and application of learning technologies to achieve just and equitable educational learning opportunities, teaching practices, policies, and systems. We seek a scholar who has demonstrated the capacity to contribute to the creation and use of scholarship in education and the learning sciences, with strong methodological training in quantitative, qualitative, or multiple methods, who has the ability to teach courses in education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and who seeks to influence practice and policy. We also seek a scholar with a strong record of interdisciplinary and mixed-method collaborations who is enthusiastic about working with colleagues from the College of Engineering and at the University of Michigan Center for Innovation.

    Who We Are

    Educational Studies, LEAPS, and CSHPE all have internationally recognized faculty committed to: the study and advancement of equity and social justice in school and out of school settings, effective teaching in the core disciplines, the study of how technologies and other educational innovations enhance teaching and learning, the social and political contexts and the historical and philosophical foundations of schooling, and the use of evidence to shape education policy and public discussions on curriculum, teaching, and achievement. Graduates of our programs become engaged in academic and research careers in university programs, research organizations, or public agencies; administrative positions in school systems, educational centers, institutions of higher education, and/or national, regional, and state agencies; and in teacher education, professional development and curriculum positions in local and state systems and educational companies as well as for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.

    Responsibilities*

    Candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise graduate students, direct doctoral dissertations, and serve as an active member of the Marsal Family School of Education, the University, and education professional communities. Experience mentoring students of many different backgrounds is desired.

    Required Qualifications*

    Candidates should have a track record of outstanding scholarship in education. The appointment may be at the rank of tenure-track advanced associate or full professor with tenure. Candidates for advanced associate or full professor should be nationally recognized scholars with a strong record of empirical studies and external funding. Demonstrated teaching ability, strong methodological skills, a desire to develop sponsored research, and a strong record of collaborative and interdisciplinary work are required.

    Successful candidates will have:

    + a doctorate in education, learning sciences, new media ecologies, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, computer science, and/or neuroscience, with a focus on emerging and advanced technologies development, use, and research in teaching and learning;

    + demonstrated commitment to the Marsal Family School of Education's mission, vision, and values;

    + a program of research and publications commensurate with rank;

    + experience teaching in higher education;

    + a track record of developing and securing grants to support research;

    + a track record or strong interest in approaches to disseminate educational technology projects through product design efforts, and

    + a strong interest in advising and mentoring graduate students.

    With all hires, Educational Studies, LEAPS, and CSHPE seek candidates who are committed to the Marsal's imperatives to improve educational practice for all students.
