    Job Summary

    The Director of the Cell and Gene Therapy Program holds enterprise-wide accountability for the strategic direction, operational performance, and growth of the Cell and Gene Therapy portfolio. This role provides visionary leadership in planning, organizing, and managing multidisciplinary workgroups to deliver innovative, high-quality care. At the enterprise level, the Director drives the development and execution of care delivery models, operational optimization strategies, and business plans that enhance patient experience, ensure financial sustainability, and advance institutional objectives.

     

    This position encompasses direct oversight of all Cell and Gene Therapy services across the health system and requires strong collaboration with executive and clinical leaders to achieve system-wide optimization across all settings of care. The role combines strategic foresight with operational rigor to drive transformative initiatives at scale.

    Organizational Relationships

    + **Program Oversight** : Provides direct executive leadership for the Cell and Gene Therapy Program, ensuring strategic alignment and operational excellence across all settings.

    + **Reporting Relationship:** Reports directly to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), serving as a key member of the senior leadership team.

    + **Collaborative Leadership:** Partners with the ACNO, ACCO, ACCC, Associate Directors, Senior Nursing Directors to drive strategic priorities, operationalize initiatives, and achieve organizational objectives.

    + **Strategic Alignment:** Partners with department/program leadership to align goals with Michigan Medicine enterprise strategy, developing and executing plans that advance institutional priorities and clinical innovation.

    Responsibilities*

    + **Strategic Leadership:** Direct the design, implementation, and growth of the Cell and Gene Therapy program across ambulatory, inpatient, and specialty clinical settings. Collaborate with senior stakeholders to establish strategies that advance clinical innovation and operational excellence.

    + **Market Positioning & Financial Stewardship:** Strengthen the organizational position as regional leader in Cell and Gene Therapy while ensuring financial sustainability. Address emerging payment models, patient experience, and therapy pipeline evolution to maintain competitive advantage.

    + **Operational Optimization:** Standardize care models and streamline workflows to enhance efficiency, productivity, and resource utilization. Provide guidance on staffing, throughput, and capacity planning to maximize program performance.

    + **Performance Management:** Develop and monitor key performance indicators; implement robust tracking systems and execute corrective action plans to address strategic goals.

    + **Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:** Ensure adherence to all regulatory and accreditation requirements. Partner with local leadership to identify and implement process improvements that uphold regulatory and compliance standards.

    + **Growth and Innovation:** Collaborate with executive and clinical leaders to drive program expansion and innovation across all care settings, aligning with organizational and growth strategies.

    + **Governance & Risk Management:** Engage with governance bodies to ensure safe, effective, and successful program delivery. Recommend enhancements to governance structures and systems as services evolve.

    Required Qualifications*

    Professional Licensure

    + Active licensure in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, or relevant clinical specialty.

    Education

    + Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related discipline.

    + Master's or advanced degree in Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy, Business, or related field preferred.

    Experience

    + Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare management, demonstrating accountability for complex clinical operations and strategic initiatives.

    + Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in infusion services, pharmacy operations, oncology, or advanced therapies such as Cell and Gene Therapy.

    Certifications/Licensure (Preferred)

    + Registered Nurse (Michigan Board of Nursing)

    + Licensed Pharmacist (Michigan Board of Pharmacy)

    + BLS

    Physical Demands/Working Conditions

    + Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + 1-2 years of leadership experience (within the last 5 years) specifically in Cell and Gene Therapy populations.

    + Five (5) years combined experience across inpatient and outpatient care, with at least one (1) year inpatient experience.

    + Deep knowledge of pharmacy, clinical operations, and infusion services, with experience in relevant healthcare technologies and systems.

    + Proven track record of reliability, dependability, and increasing organizational responsibility.

    + Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire diverse healthcare teams.

    + Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.

    + Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and resource management in a healthcare setting.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging stakeholders across all organizational levels.

    Work Schedule

    + 40 hours/week

    + Shift and hours will vary based on departmental needs, but primarily Monday through Friday with flexibility.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
