    Job Summary

    The Michigan Firearm Law Implementation Program (M-FLIP) at the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP) seeks a highly skilled evaluation specialist to provide evaluation support and expertise for the implementation of Michigan's extreme risk protection order (ERPO) and safe firearm storage laws across multiple sectors including law enforcement, healthcare, education, and community violence intervention. Working closely with the M-FLIP team, this position will implement program evaluation and quality improvement for implementation practitioners. The evaluation specialist will also support research program evaluation and data analysis. The ideal candidate is a flexible and creative problem solver, who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, with a multi-disciplinary approach.

    Responsibilities*

    Work with the M-FLIP team to design, develop and implement needs assessment, focus groups, training and technical assistance (TTA) evaluations, and other program evaluation tools.

     

    Conduct analyses (primarily quantitative), interpret and synthesize results, and prepare data visualization reports for multiple audiences.

     

    Work with TTA specialists to develop tools and resources for practitioners to evaluate their firearm safety law implementation work; provide direct assistance to practitioners in program evaluation.

     

    Conduct rapid quality improvement evaluation to translate needs assessment and training and TA evaluation into action for our TTA team.

     

    Track, maintain, and document program activities.

     

    Collaborate with the communications team to prepare high-quality, tailored evaluation reports and materials for a range of internal and external audiences (e.g. IFIP leadership, practitioners, community members).

     

    Present evaluation findings to leadership, advisory boards, and other internal and external collaborators.

     

    Prepare evaluation results and other data for manuscript publication and contribute to manuscript writing.

     

    This position is a hybrid position requiring 2 in-person days at our office on the U-M Ann Arbor Central Campus. Ability to travel to locations throughout Michigan regularly throughout the year is required.

    Required Qualifications*

    Master's degree in a related field (intermediate level); Bachelor's degree in related field (associate level).

     

    1-3 years (associate level) or 3-5 years (intermediate level) of experience in program planning and evaluation.

     

    Experience with a range of social science program evaluation methods including needs assessments and survey design.

     

    Demonstrated quantitative data analysis skills; experience using R, SPSS, Stata, SAS, or Python to manage and analyze large data sets.

     

    Experience creating and/or operationalizing evaluation plans.

     

    Experience with internal process evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.

     

    Understanding of and training in using data visualization to present information to varied audiences (e.g., data dashboards, and other visualization methods).

     

    Demonstrated experience with **problem-solving** issues with evaluation processes and data as part of a team and independently.

     

    Strong ability to **prioritize tasks and manage time** independently to meet deadlines.

     

    Excellent **collaboration and interpersonal skills** with the ability to work with internal team members and external partners.

     

    Interest in firearm injury prevention, suicide prevention, violence prevention, public policy, or related fields
