    Job Description

    As a Shipyard Laborer, you will assist in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of cable systems while ensuring that all techniques, materials, and accomplishments meet technical standards and specifications. You will operate a variety of hand and power tools, clean and prepare work sites, and assist other trade workers as needed.

    Responsibilities

    + Operate hand and power tools of all types, including air hammers and measuring equipment.

    + Clean and prepare sites by removing rubble and debris, and clearing materials.

    + Assist skilled workers by loading and unloading equipment and carrying materials.

    + Remove paint and scale from ships’ metal surfaces using wire brushes.

    + Convey materials and tools to work sites and load vehicles using hand trucks or dollies.

    + Wash and clean ships, piers, drydocks, and other working areas.

    + Open shipping crates using appropriate tools.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience in ship repair and shipyard operations.

    + Capability in general laborer duties, including firewatch and marine tasks.

    + Proficiency with hand and power tools.

    + Prior shipyard experience of at least 2-4 months.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Knowledge and skills sufficient to fabricate and assemble various insulating systems.

    + Ability to cut, shape, position, align, and mount materials on piping systems and ventilation ducting.

    Work Environment

     

    Work will be performed at various shipyard facilities in San Diego, CA, including Nassco, BAE, CMSD, North Island, and the Naval Base on 32nd street. The shift may begin as early as 5 am and can extend to 10-hour days, Monday through Saturday.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
