The Consultant will provide professional structural engineering services to support data center projects throughout the Southeast United States. This role requires a registered Structural Professional Engineer with extensive experience in tilt-up concrete and precast structures within the light industrial sector. The primary focus is on providing technical oversight to third-party structural engineering vendors during the design and development of data center facilities, ensuring compliance with local building codes, standards, and Basis of Design requirements.
Responsibilities
+ Provide technical oversight of third-party structural engineering vendors during the design and development of data center facilities.
+ Ensure compliance with local building codes, standards, and Basis of Design requirements.
+ Actively participate in the design development process by conducting weekly coordination meetings with vendors.
+ Perform design reviews at 30%, 60%, 90%, and 100% completion milestones.
+ Provide guidance throughout the design phase.
+ Support the resolution of permitting comments and review and approve Issue for Construction drawing sets.
+ Maintain oversight during the construction phase, including resolving structural-related issues identified in the field.
+ Respond to Requests for Information and review structural submittals in a timely manner to maintain project schedules.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert in the continuous development and improvement of the Structural Basis of Design.
+ Review and update template drawings and specifications, identifying opportunities for innovation and value engineering of structural elements.
+ Provide technical recommendations to enhance the Basis of Design.
+ Maintain thorough documentation of all design decisions, modifications, and improvements to support the ongoing evolution of data center structural standards.
Essential Skills
+ US Citizenship required.
+ ABET accredited bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
+ 7+ years of experience in structural design for industrial or commercial projects.
+ 5+ years of experience with the design of large-scale buildings such as data centers, mission-critical facilities, hospitals, schools, or highly complex commercial tower facilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
+ SE Engineering license.
+ Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers.
+ Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards including IBC and ASCE.
+ Solid working proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite, and other associated structural engineering tools.
+ Detailed understanding of tilt-up and precast concrete structures, structural steel systems, seismic design, wind loading, snow loading, and forensic analysis of building design and construction defects.
+ Experience in value engineering for building structural systems.
+ Ability to design and calculate auxiliary framing systems used to support cable trays, conduits, ductwork, etc.
+ Design and review of non-structural components and non-building structures.
+ Ability to evaluate the constructability of new technologies and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
+ Ability to perform and present business case analysis.
+ Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find innovative solutions to reduce costs without impacting quality or reliability.
Work Environment
This is a 100% remote position, providing flexibility and independence in your work environment. Opportunities for extension and conversion may be possible, depending on project needs and performance.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $77.00/hr.
