Job Description
This critical role within Mechanical Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing designs for mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-systems used in medical devices. The candidate will drive innovation and new ways of working, complete large and complex designs, and display subject matter expertise in multiple areas of the design discipline. This role is considered a specialist within the organization with high levels of authority. This role will approve projects, plans, and tasks in all areas of engineering and will drive cross-functional collaboration with all areas of the business to move designs into production.
Responsibilities
+ Lead and complete conceptualized design solutions for mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-systems, meeting critical requirements and timelines.
+ Complete detailed engineering analysis of new and existing designs to verify robustness and design intent, with little or no oversight.
+ Produce and approve detailed drawings utilizing GD&T and engineering best practices.
+ Drive large complex engineering changes through the design change and release process.
+ Lead and complete complex root cause analysis investigations.
+ Prepare prototypes for testing and provide technical assistance on design feasibility.
+ Work with suppliers to address technical issues with designs.
+ Work closely with manufacturing and field service in the development of designs.
+ Conduct and approve prototype testing and laboratory best practices.
+ Lead and complete drafting and design reviews with a cross-functional team.
+ Perform all verification activities and document results for knowledge transfer.
+ Embrace simulation culture in all work activities, conducting or directing work in the discipline.
+ Plan and forecast large work scopes within and outside of the cross-functional team.
+ Direct activities of other engineers, lab technicians, etc.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in using 3D CAD software (preferably NX) to develop designs utilizing proper design intent.
+ Strong knowledge of various manufacturing methods (i.e., machining, sheet metal, and castings).
+ Prior experience utilizing GD&T.
+ Experience with facilitating or participating in FMEA and DFMA activities.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degrees a plus).
+ 8-10+ years of industry experience in product design and development.
+ Experience with product development in an FDA-regulated environment.
+ High proficiency with 3D CAD (preferably NX) to develop designs utilizing proper design intent.
+ Strong experience with designing part manufacturing methods including machined, sheet metal, castings, and plastic injection molding.
+ Strong electromechanical knowledge of motion technologies including motors.
+ Proficiency with GD&T best practices and ability to perform complex tolerance stackups.
+ FEA or CFD simulation skills or close working relationships needed.
Work Environment
The position is located in New York with the option of onsite or hybrid work arrangements. The work is conducted in a dynamic environment that emphasizes collaboration and innovation. The role involves using advanced technologies and equipment, and the dress code is business casual. The contract is long-term, spanning 12 to 24 months, with benefits including one week of vacation time and six paid holidays.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $75.00/hr.
