    Job Title: Mechanical Project EngineerJob Description

     

    As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will work both independently and collaboratively to design and revise industrial equipment using AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D. This role involves leading project kickoff meetings, documenting design narratives, and creating bills of materials. You will develop systems layouts and machine designs, taking into account factors like conveyance, structural support, automation, and thermal expansion. Effective communication with various stakeholders including engineers, managers, and customers is crucial. You will also travel to job sites to assess equipment, troubleshoot issues, and conduct field verifications.

    Responsibilities

    + Design and revise AutoCAD 2D and Inventor 3D industrial equipment.

    + Lead formal and informal project kickoff meetings.

    + Document design narratives and engineering analysis.

    + Create bills of materials for all designs.

    + Develop conveyance, structural support, and machine design layouts.

    + Communicate with Project Engineer, Project Manager, Engineering Manager, and customers.

    + Travel to job sites for equipment assessments and troubleshooting (10-20%).

    + Perform field verification of drawings.

    + Create detailed engineering drawings and specifications.

    + Review design documents for accuracy and constructability.

    + Collaborate with Project Manager to ensure project accuracy and timeliness.

    + Coordinate design modifications with Manufacturing Services and Purchasing.

    + Monitor and manage engineering project costs.

    + Name and store designs according to departmental structures.

    + Respond to requests for information and resolve design issues.

    + Attend pre-bid and job meetings, taking notes and following up as needed.

    + Review project priorities with Engineering Manager.

    + Complete all required job design paperwork in a timely manner.

    Essential Skills

    + Mechanical design expertise

    + Proficiency in Inventor and AutoCAD

    + Project management skills

    + Experience with industrial equipment and machine design

    + Familiarity with conveyor systems and system design

    + PMP certification is preferred

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

    + 7-10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or industrial design

    + Proficiency in 3D Design software: AutoCAD, Inventor 3D, and Microsoft Office

    + Experience with industrial manufacturing designs and schematics

    + Familiarity with manufacturing shop fabrication processes

    + Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

    + Excellent client-facing written and verbal communication skills

    Work Environment

    The role is primarily office-based with a moderate noise level, but also requires visits to plant environments where temperature variations, dust, and dirt may be present. Manufacturing and client plant locations may necessitate the use of personal protective equipment, such as steel toe boots. Travel to customer sites is expected about 10-20% of the time.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
