Description

A construction services company in Pflugerville is seeking an Onsite Interim Accounting Manager to oversee full-cycle accounting operations and support the CFO during a period of transition. The ideal consultant has strong hands-on accounting experience, familiarity with construction cost accounting, and working knowledge of Deltek. This role also requires managing in-house payroll, including union payroll processing and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Accounting & Close

+ Manage daily accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, job costing, and fixed assets.

+ Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.

+ Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules.

+ Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP.

Construction Accounting & Job Costing

+ Support construction-specific accounting functions such as job cost tracking, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, cost allocations, and revenue recognition.

+ Partner with project managers to ensure accurate coding, labor allocation, and cost updates.

+ Prepare project financial summaries for leadership review.

Reporting & Analysis

+ Assist the CFO with internal financial reporting, dashboards, and variance analysis.

+ Provide insights into project profitability, overhead trends, and cash flow.

+ Support external reporting and interactions with auditors or banking partners as needed.

Payroll (In-House & Union)

+ Manage in-house payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

+ Handle union payroll, including rate tables, fringe calculations, benefits reporting, and certified payroll requirements.

+ Maintain payroll records and respond to inquiries from employees and union representatives.

Systems & Process Improvement

+ Utilize Deltek for job costing, accounting workflows, and reporting.

+ Help optimize processes and recommend workflow efficiencies.

+ Ensure documentation and controls are followed and updated.

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

+ 5–10+ years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in construction, contracting, or related industries.

+ Strong understanding of Deltek (Costpoint, Vision, or similar).

+ Previous experience managing in-house payroll and union payroll required.

+ Solid understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, and construction accounting practices.

+ Ability to partner closely with the CFO and act as a reliable, proactive resource.

+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

+ Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
