    Summary

    At APS, we keep Arizona connected by ensuring the reliability and integrity of our transmission systems. As a Transmission Operations Planner, you’ll play a critical role in planning and coordinating outages and system additions that support safe, efficient, and reliable power delivery across our transmission and sub-transmission networks.

     

    What your day would be like

     

    + Coordinating planned and emergency work between operations, engineering, construction, maintenance, and external partners to ensure seamless execution.

    + Reviewing and approving maintenance and construction requests for transmission and sub-transmission lines and equipment.

    + Developing and implementing switching procedures for maintenance, new facility integration, and emergency requirements.

    + Representing Transmission Operations in stakeholder meetings to uphold operational standards.

    + Researching and recommending improvements for electrical facility additions or modifications, and contributing to operational studies and project planning.

    + Ensuring compliance with NERC and Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) outage communication requirements.

     

    Who we’re looking for

     

    + Experienced in transmission system operations, outage planning, and coordination.

    + Skilled in developing switching procedures and managing complex operational sequences.

    + Strong communicator who thrives in collaborative environments and can build relationships across multiple teams and external partners.

    + Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and organize work to maintain system integrity during outages.

    + Knowledgeable about regulatory requirements, including NERC standards and EIM protocols.

    Minimum Requirements

    + High school diploma/ GED plus five (5) years of relevant experience in one or more of these key areas:

    + Balancing Authority principals, path allocations, and transmission scheduling

    + Relaying and communication principals

    + Field maintenance and/or construction practices

    + Substation equipment

    + Distribution Operations and/or Planning

    + Transmission Operations and/or Planning

    + Experience and knowledge in the operation of transmission systems, substation equipment, relaying and/or operating procedures.

    + Knowledge of electrical theory for interconnected electric system operation. Demonstrated customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.

    + Ability to handle multiple complex assignments simultaneously and make timely decisions under stressful conditions.

    + Must be able to complete and pass all Operations Planning JPEs and oral boards in a timely manner.

    + Must be able to hold and maintain a North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Coordination certification and understand NERC standards.

    + Must be capable of using computer applications to manage work (Microsoft suite, outage management applications, etc.).

     

    Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

     

    In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

     

    + Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

    + Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.

    + Role types are subject to change based on business need.
