Overview
The Transportation Manager will ensure safe, legal, and on-time delivery of freight to member stores throughout assigned territory. The Transportation Manager provides direction and oversight of all transportation-related functions at his/her assigned territory and associated transportation hubs.
Responsibilities
1. Builds an open and honest communication line with direct and indirect reports. Interacts dailywith the drivers, delivery assistants & warehouse personnel.2. Develops and ensures a positive, supportive, and collaborative culture in the Operations group.3. Oversees the tracking of fleet and warehouse performance against the established budget
4. Forecasts staffing needs based on upcoming events, seasonal changes, etc.
5. Responsible for direction and coordination of route drivers to ensure maximum performance relative to product delivery, service, and good customer relations6. Ensure customer complaints are investigated and resolved related to in-store service and delivery7. Ensures full compliance with all company quality assurance standards8. Develops annual cost savings initiatives that are aligned with the company's strategic plan9. Manage the department’s annual operating budget and assist in cost analysis10. Oversee the hiring, supervision, scheduling, and termination of personnel.11. Effectively schedules, supervises, and directs transportation personnel12. Monitors Driver performance weekly through Motive and Ortec. Counsels Drivers on performance issues and areas for improvement.13. Creates a team-oriented environment by developing supervisors, conducting performance appraisals, and communicating updates to process, procedures, and policies14. Ensures that personnel understand and implement safety and regulatory policies and procedures15. Manage fleet utilization, tracking status of vehicle/equipment, monitoring equipment on Out of Service report, and holding all equipment service providers accountable for repairs identified within DVIR’s and PM’s.16. Ensures compliance with DOT hours of service by giving immediate feedback and taking corrective action when they become aware of HOS issues. Supervisors will utilize the NDCP standard disciplinary action outlined by the driver’s expectations that corresponds to the risk of the violation.17. Works with the Safety Manager on proper safe driving techniques while using Motive AI Cameras system to identify risky behaviors, proper lifting, and training in all required DOT regulations.18. Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Supervision ExercisedThis position has direct supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications & Skills
•BS/BA preferred•5-7 years of multi-state transportation management experience in the food distribution industry
•Financial acumen with previous P&L responsibility, preferred
•Demonstrated mastery of the Federal Motor Carrier Rules and Regulations•Knowledgeable of related OSHA standards and regulations•Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel•SAP experience preferred.•On Board Computer System Experience required, Motive preferred.•Prior experience with routing software, Ortec preferred.•Experience with 3rd-party maintenance vendors•Excellent verbal and written communication skills•Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities required•Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills required•Willing and able to work flexible/extended work schedules, as needed•Class A CDL preferred
Physical Demands•Ability to perform work at a desk or sit/stand workstation for extended periods of time•Ability to operate a computer keyboard and to view a computer screen for extended periods of time•Ability to interact with employees and/or customers in the Distribution Center (range of temperatures from freezer and refrigerated areas or customer locations).•Ability to travel to customer locations, other Distribution Centers, Corporate Office, etc., as needed•Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifteen (15) pounds

Exempt Salary Compensation range: $120,000 - $135,000
