    Job Description

    Neurology Physician Assistant for day and/or night coverage working under Neurology attending physicians, PGY3 Neurology residents, and Stroke fellows. Emphasis on care of acute Stroke inpatients at Elmhurst Hospital, a key teaching affiliate of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Joint Commission certified Stroke Center/Thrombectomy Capable Center.

    Qualifications

    -Job requires completion of NYS-approved program for training of physician assistants to acquire knowledge of anatomy, physiology and clinical patient care, usually via Bachelor of Science program/degree in closely related field. Certain education/training may be accepted by NYS in lieu of these requirements (nurse, etc.).

     

    -One year minimum experience at a Stroke Center, demonstrating knowledge of and ability to perform all tasks within the delineation of privileges permitted for stroke.

     

    -Registration required with New York State as Physician Assistant.

     

    -Certification with National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required.

     

    -Certification may be required with the American Heart Associate or like organization in some areas as provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).

     

    -General computer skills to be proficient in a robust Electronic Medical Record environment (Epic at our center).

     

    -Excellent written and oral communication skills.

     

    -Ability to work collaboratively in teams.

    Responsibilities

    1. Participate under the supervision of the Stroke Attending, Chief Resident or Cerebrovascular Fellow in the acute management of stroke, sharing responsibilities with rotating interns covering the Neurology Stroke Service. The settings are primarily the ED, Stroke Unit, Step-down floor, with additional consult cases in Intensive Care Units. The majority of activity and formal teaching and work rounds occur during the day shifts.

    2. Participate at Stroke Codes during the initial assessment and management of potential stroke cases. Determine eligibility for interventions with the Attending and/or Chief Resident in Neurology, specifically thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.

    3. Collaborate as needed readying thrombectomy cases for their procedures with the Endovascular Neurosurgeon or fellow or Physician Assistant on call.

    4. Application of standard stroke scores, screens, scales (e.g. NIHSS, MRS) of severity, functional outcomes, presence of dysphagia and their documentation. Documentation of required stroke metrics in the templated discharge record.

    5. Oversee use of templated admission H&Ps, use of admission order sets, entering daily patient progress notes, participating in multidisciplinary rounds, readying discharges, and preparing Discharge Summaries.

    6. Insure compliance with hospital policies and guidelines for the acute management of stroke and proper documentation thereof in the medical record across the stroke service.

    Compensation Statement

    Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $68.5182 - $91.3576 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
