    Summary This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. This position is a working leader assigned responsibility for building and utility maintenance work. The position provides daily direction to at least 3 employees. The highest level of work led is at the WG-7 level. Responsibilities Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor. Demonstrates proper work method and sets the pace for the crew. Ensure necessary supplies, materials, equipment and tools are available when needed. Checks work in progress and upon completion determines if supervisor's instructions are being followed and timelines are met. Ensures safety and housekeeping rules are being met. Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide variety of features in buildings and other facilities. Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility supply and disposal systems. Performs painting duties with little oversite or review during progress or completion. Lays out and plans masonry work. Responsible for installing new roofs including flashing, gutters and other accessories. Makes repair that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing soldering and insulating defective electrical components. Area Information Government Housing May Be Available. Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is a little-known gem in the National Park System, supported by an enthusiastic and creative staff. Located in the northwest corner of Nebraska, it lies 25 miles south of Harrison along the Niobrara River. The park features fossil quarries containing numerous, well-preserved mammal fossils from the Miocene Epoch, as well as a museum housing the Cook Collection-a remarkable assemblage of Plains Indian artifacts. Summer temperatures typically reach the 90s, with sunny, dry days and occasional afternoon showers. In winter, temperatures can occasionally drop below zero, accompanied by varying amounts of snowfall. The monument is situated 50 miles north of Scotts Bluff National Monument and the towns of Scottsbluff and Gering, Nebraska-regional hubs for shopping, education, commercial air service, and medical care. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound in the surrounding area. Agate Fossil Beds is approximately a two-hour drive east of Colorado's Front Range and two hours south of the South Dakota Black Hills, making it a scenic and accessible destination for travelers. Agate Fossil Beds National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Lead Or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Vehicle Operation SCREEN OUTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience demonstrates my ability to organized assignments for subordinates, estimate materials and manpower, prepare work orders and reports, train others on maintenance work in at least two of the follow trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, cement finishing or masonry), explain work manuals and procedures, and motivate others to work efficiently and productively. DRIVER'S LICENSE: This position requires that the incumbent possess a valid Driver's License. Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS). If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility. The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM. Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations. Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Where surfaces are to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach requiring incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside where dirt, spray, fumes is present. Also required to work in extreme weather conditions and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequently exposed to the potential risk of broken bones, shock, burns, cuts and bruises.
