Job Title: Structural Design Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Design Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity, anticipated to last 12 months or longer. In this role, you will leverage your extensive technical knowledge and analytical skills to perform civil structural design for both Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the design of concrete and steel structures and will be capable of leading technical activities while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Serve as the subject matter expert in civil structural design, adeptly resolving technical issues and collaborating with interdisciplinary stakeholders.

+ Tackle complex engineering tasks across diverse areas, proposing innovative design solutions that significantly impact project outcomes.

+ Enhance in-house technical expertise by developing advanced capabilities that align with project goals and company strategy.

+ Utilize structural engineering tools to design and analyze Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures, applying relevant standards and post-processing analytical results.

+ Collaborate with regulatory bodies to support domestic and international compliance efforts.

+ Work effectively with other engineering disciplines and structural consultants to ensure seamless coordination of design activities and effective resolution of technical problems.

+ Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.

+ Develop, review, and maintain requirements documentation, methodology documents, design reports, and technical studies.

+ Communicate clearly and effectively with contractors and regulatory bodies, demonstrating strong written and oral communication skills.

+ Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the team.

Minimum Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities:

+ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution; an advanced degree is preferred. A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is strongly preferred.

+ Experience: Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer, showcasing extensive knowledge of engineering principles and strong technical writing and communication skills. Proven organizational prowess with the ability to manage complex projects is required.

+ Technical Proficiency: Experience in designing and analyzing structures (concrete and steel) using relevant design software and finite element analysis. Proficiency in ANSYS is required. Familiarity with relevant codes, including ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690 is preferred. Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python) are a plus but not required.

+ Industry Requirements: Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to communicate effectively through various mediums and perform tasks that involve sitting, standing, walking, bending, and using hands for operating office equipment. Occasional travel nationally and locally may be required.
