Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Electrical Safety Engineer will support the Energy Marshal and Commissioning Manager in implementing and maintaining electrical safety programs during project execution. This position will focus on the development and management of electrical safety controls, control of hazardous energy (COHE) programs, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring that all electrical systems are designed, commissioned, and energized safely in accordance with company procedures, OSHA regulations, and NFPA 70E standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Safety & Control of Hazardous Energy
+ Develop, review, and maintain **Control of Hazardous Energy (COHE)** and **LOTO procedures** for electrical systems and equipment.
+ Identify **upstream isolation points** , protective devices, and **control points** required for safe LOTO operations.
+ Collaborate with construction, commissioning, and safety teams to ensure all **energization and de-energization activities** follow approved procedures.
+ Support and enforce **NFPA 70E** , **OSHA 1910/1926 Subpart S** , and **company-specific electrical safety standards** .
+ Participate in **hazard analysis** , risk assessments, and electrical incident investigations as required.
+ Maintain a database of **LOTO procedures and permits** , ensuring version control and traceability.
Commissioning & Engineering Support
+ Assist in **commissioning planning and execution** , focusing on electrical safety and system readiness.
+ Coordinate with commissioning teams to verify that electrical systems are properly isolated, tested, and re-energized per established protocols.
+ Support field engineers and technicians in troubleshooting and validating system performance.
+ Provide **engineering review** for temporary power, testing setups, and energization sequences.
Program & Documentation Management
+ Write and maintain **standard operating procedures (SOPs)** for electrical safety, testing, and commissioning.
+ Support the Energy Marshal in conducting **training sessions** and **toolbox talks** on LOTO, electrical hazards, and energization processes.
+ Manage documentation for **LOTO permits** , **energization plans** , and **pre-task hazard analyses (PTHA)** .
+ Track compliance metrics and prepare reports on program performance and incident trends.
Collaboration & Oversight
+ Work under the direction of the Energy Marshal and Commissioning Manager to ensure alignment with the overall project commissioning plan.
+ Coordinate closely with safety, construction, and operations teams to implement safe work practices.
+ Participate in field walkdowns to verify installation quality, labeling, and readiness for testing.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in **Electrical Engineering** or equivalent discipline required.
+ 2+ years of experience required in electrical engineering, commissioning, or electrical safety programs preferred.
+ Experience in **data center, industrial, or large-scale construction environments** is highly desirable.
Technical Competencies
+ Strong knowledge of **NFPA 70E** , **OSHA 1910.147** , **NFPA 70 (NEC)** , and other relevant electrical codes.
+ Familiarity with **LOTO program development** , **energization planning** , and **electrical one-line diagram interpretation** .
+ Proficient in reading and marking up **electrical drawings** , including power distribution and control schematics.
+ Basic understanding of **commissioning processes** , testing equipment, and electrical distribution systems up to 15kV.
Soft Skills
+ Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation practices.
+ Effective communicator across multidisciplinary teams.
+ Ability to work in dynamic environments under supervision while maintaining independence and accountability.
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required):
+ **OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety**
+ **NFPA 70E Qualified Electrical Worker**
+ **EIT (Engineer in Training)** or **FE (Fundamentals of Engineering)** certification
+ **LOTO Procedure Author Training** or similar safety credentials
