The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.

This leadership role oversees the district’s Safe Drinking Water Program, providing guidance and direction to subordinate staff to ensure the protection of public health. The Sanitarian 6 manages biological and chemical sampling operations, conducts Class 1 Surveys, and compiles districtwide progress reports to support program accountability and regulatory compliance. The position also plays a key role in directing public health response activities during emergencies, ensuring communities receive safe, reliable drinking water under all conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following, which must include one year of experience at the supervisory level or above:
Five years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus four years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
