Tradesperson Leader: Electric Shop
Position Description:
Performs supervisory and participatory work in the construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures. Responsibilities include the supervision of a work crew involved in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, furnishings, and various other structures and fixtures. Duties also include the actual hands-on work in this area. Work is performed under the general supervision of the foreman with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise other assigned workers.

Major/Essential Functions:
Skills & Qualifications
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with customers, shop personnel, and other departments.
+ Working knowledge of safe operation of power tools, hand tools, and equipment common to the electrical and construction fields.
+ Proficiency in interpreting freehand sketches, schematics, blueprints, as-built drawings, diagrams, and technical publications.
+ Ability to safely perform skilled electrical work involving construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and machinery.
+ Basic computer skills, including email use and web browsing.
Operations, Maintenance & Field Work
+ Conducts inspections of completed projects, reviews work orders, corrective actions, and construction plans.
+ Operates, secures, and maintains vehicles and equipment such as pickups, trucks, vans, forklifts, trailers, lifts, and tanks.
+ Monitors and oversees preventive maintenance and operation of electrical equipment and work sites.
+ Assesses material needs, prepares requisitions, and maintains documentation for materials and labor.
+ Provides after-hours support through overtime work and participation in emergency callback rotation.
Shop & Resource Management
+ Supports the shop foreperson in managing material resources, maintaining shop stock, and ensuring equipment readiness.
+ Helps prepare weekly work schedules, conducts shop meetings, and attends required meetings and training.
+ Prepares reports, correspondence, and studies, and advises the shop foreman on project progress and operational concerns.
+ Assists in planning, coordinating, and supervising work center operations and staff; acts for the foreperson when required.
Personnel Supervision & Training
+ Assists with administrative and personnel actions, including counseling, problem resolution, and performance evaluations.
+ Assigns tasks, sets priorities, and monitors performance, maintaining Employee Performance Notes.
+ Provides ongoing on-the-job training to enhance staff proficiency and effectiveness.
+ Oversees apprenticeship program progression and conducts apprenticeship training.
Other Duties
+ Completes additional responsibilities as assigned by the shop foreperson.

Minimum five years of on-the-job experience as a journey electrician. Supervisory experience is preferred, but not required.

Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Two years experience as a licensed journeyperson in designated trade; or five years related experience. Job-related vocational training or education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
