UPMC Public Relations is hiring a Summer Intern - Internal Communications and Media Relations to join our team! This intern will work with the department for Summer 2026. The position will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during business hours. This paid internship at the hourly rate of $20 is a hybrid work position, with both required in-office time and work-from-home time. Located primarily at the US Steel Tower, 600 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, with travel to additional UPMC locations in the region as needed for team projects.
We are looking for individuals who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
All individuals will be required to provide a writing sample upon applying to the role.
Responsibilities:
+ Contribute to UPMC Public Relations department processes for both Internal Communications and Media Relations, including writing and editing content, submitting to publications, collaborating with colleagues, developing reports, assisting with media outreach and coverage efforts, and other processes as outlined by department leadership.
+ Collaborate with team members to provide internal communications support system clients and special projects.
+ Collaborate with colleagues to provide media relations support for UPMC in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
+ Independently plan, research, and write copy that is creative, well organized, concise, appropriate to the audience, channel, and purpose, and aligned with department style.
+ Approach projects and collaboration opportunities with an eager-to-learn attitude and a sense of curiosity and creativity.
+ Take responsibility for approvals and accuracy of information communicated.
+ Demonstrate service-oriented behavior in line with UPMC Values in interactions with clients and co-workers.
+ Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize projects appropriately to meet deadlines.
+ Perform in accordance with systemwide competencies/behaviors.
+ Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is preferred
+ Proficiency in writing and editing
+ Ability to work independently on several separate, simultaneous tasks
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools
+ Excellent communication, multitasking, organizational, writing, grammar, and interpersonal skills
