Position Overview:
The Intern, Store Design Architecture will assist the Project Designer and Project Architect to develop store designs from concept through construction documents by sketching, drafting, sourcing material samples, preparing presentation documents, maintaining organized project folders and performing other administrative duties related to design. In addition to store design projects, the Store Design Intern will assist with design initiatives and departments initiatives that support Store Design.
This position is based out of our New York City office. The rate for this position is $25 per hour.
Key Accountabilities:
Design (Project & Initiatives):
Assist in providing design solutions as directed by the Project Designer in resolving complex design and technical issues while maintaining TCO quality standards.
+ Demonstrate a versatility of design skills (ranging from hand drawing to 2D and 3D computer-based tools) to communicate design options.
+ Create quick and clear hand-sketches to explore plan and elevation options and to communicate designs to the design team and consultants.
+ Assist the Project Designer in the creation of Design Intent drawings for distribution to architects.
+ Research project specific materials and products.
+ Coordinate with the 3D visualization team to create conceptual 3D renderings of a store's design as directed by the Project Designer.
+ Build physical 3D models as directed by Project Designer to explore design proposals
+ Assemble design presentation layouts and presentation boards.
Execution/Production:
Assist the design team to develop store designs and design documentation that supports successful designs that meet the project schedule and Tiffany design quality standards.
+ Provide coordinated drawings and presentations on a project and task basis.
+ Assist a collaborative team to efficiently resolve design challenges
+ Clearly understand design goals and expectations and openly ask for clarification when needed to insure work stays on track.
+ Take initiative independently when appropriate when it is appropriate to elevate issues and when to proceed based on experience and established design solutions.
+ Assist in maintaining project schedules and identifying potential schedule concerns in achieving deadlines.
+ Maintain organized records of all project communication on the Tiffany shared project server.
Partnership (Internal & External):
Partner with multiple teams (internal and external) to achieve store designs that fulfill TCO’s creative direction and support the regional team’s strategic requirements and business needs.
+ Communicate with professionalism and clarity to all internal teams and external partners.
+ Keep Project Designer and Project Architect informed of all potential design conflicts or challenges and seek guidance when necessary.
+ Attend team design reviews to share design learnings, strategies, and accept feedback and direction on design progress.
+ Take careful notes during meetings with the Project Designer in order to ensure follow-through on design feedback
+ Follow up with consultants on design progress and answer Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify design intent.
+ Set up agendas for meetings with guidance from Project Designer.
Required Qualifications:
+ Actively matriculating in Architecture or Interior Design program and 0-3 years working in a professional setting.
+ Demonstrated design and detailing skills.
+ Familiarity with design phases, architectural drawing sets.
+ High degree of interest in luxury retail and familiarity with basic principles of retail design
+ Proficiency in design software tools such as AutoCAD, Sketchup, InDesign, Photoshop.
+ Excellent communication skills (i.e. adapting to communication styles of others, listening well, receiving differing perspectives, demonstrating information comprehension, and clearly communicating goals and objectives).
+ High level of organization, planning, foresight, creativity and judgment.
+ Attention to detail.
+ Self-motivated, punctual, and professional.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Luxury retail store design experience preferred.
