Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Facilities Management (FM), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR). The Office of Facilities Management and Reliability provides the full range of building services through eight maintenance and operational zones. Responsibilities The Engineering Technician (Vehicles) is responsible for installing, repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, modifying, testing and troubleshooting integrated mechanical and electrical systems. In this position, you will: Troubleshoots mechanical and electrical systems such as automotive diesel and gas repair assets, Diagnostic Equipment, AC/ Air conditioning, EV Electric Motor Repair, etc. Assists Agency Fleet Manager and Mobile Asset Supervisor with conducting regularly scheduled inventories, disposal of surplus and resolving discrepancies. Advises the supervisor of shop stock needs, services parts, and supplies. Performs analysis to ensure cost effective utilization when dealing with vendors. Analyzes, evaluates and reports on complex mechanical and electrical systems operations. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-XX level in the Federal Service. For this position specialized experience is defined as: installing, repairing, inspecting, and making repairs to Mobile Asset Equipment (gasoline/ diesel assets).
