    Job Summary

    Michigan Medicine is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Senior Project Manager to support executive-level strategic, operational, and clinical initiatives across the health system. This role leads complex, high-impact projects that advance Michigan Medicine's mission.

     

    The Senior Project Manager will lead cross-functional teams, coordinate enterprise-wide initiatives, and ensure disciplined project execution in alignment with organizational strategy. This role requires exceptional communication, analytical, and organizational skills, as well as deep experience navigating hospital operations, ambulatory care, faculty group practice structures, and academic medical center environments.

    Responsibilities*

    Strategic & Executive Project Leadership

    + Lead the planning, scoping, and implementation of high-priority projects sponsored by Michigan Medicine executive leadership.

    + Independently manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, including clinical transformation, operational improvement, digital health, quality/safety, integration, and strategic planning initiatives.

    + Translate executive goals into actionable project plans, milestones, deliverables, and performance metrics.

    + Develop and deliver polished presentations, updates, dashboards, and briefing materials for executive groups, governance bodies, and stakeholders.

    Cross-Functional Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

    + Facilitate collaboration among clinical, operational, academic, and administrative stakeholders across the health system.

    + Build strong relationships with leaders from the Medical School, hospitals and health centers, nursing, faculty group practice, shared services, and regional partners.

    + Serve as a trusted liaison between project teams and executive sponsors, ensuring alignment of expectations, priorities, and decision-making timelines.

    + Organize and lead workgroups, advisory committees, and interdisciplinary project teams.

    Project Execution, Analysis & Problem-Solving

    + Apply project management methodologies and continuous improvement practices to ensure high-quality, timely execution.

    + Conduct analyses of operational, financial, clinical, or workforce issues to inform executive decision-making.

    + Identify risks, barriers, and dependencies; develop mitigation plans and escalate issues appropriately.

    + Monitor, track, and report progress toward goals; evaluate outcomes and recommend adjustments.

    Executive Support & Leadership Coordination

    + Support executive leaders in preparing for system-level meetings, retreats, governance forums, or external engagements.

    + Prepare background materials, recommendations, and briefing documents that synthesize complex information.

    + Ensure follow-through on decisions, commitments, and action items made by executives and leadership bodies.

    + Maintain a high level of discretion and judgment in handling sensitive, confidential information.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree in health administration, business, public health, nursing, or related field.

    + Minimum 7+ years of progressively responsible project management experience, preferably within a healthcare or academic medical center environment.

    + Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-stakeholder, system-level projects.

    + Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret operational, clinical, or financial data.

    + Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication abilities.

    + Proven ability to influence without authority and lead teams in a matrixed environment.

    + Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project, Asana), workflow analysis, and process improvement methodologies.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Masters Degree

    + Certification in project management (PMP), Lean, Six Sigma, or related discipline.

    + Experience working with senior executives or participating in executive-level governance/decision-making.

    + Knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and academic medical center structures.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
