Job Description
Who will you be working with?
The Friction Product Line designs and manufactures high-friction and low-friction composition, sintered brake shoes, specialty shoes, and disc brake linings for freight, locomotive and transit vehicles.
How will you make a difference?
As a Project Technician, reporting to the Operations Support Manager, you will be responsible to build various metal assemblies needed in the facility, rebuild existing equipment, build/install engineered redesign of existing equipment, perform startup on new equipment, and other miscellaneous maintenance related tasks as assigned.
What do we want to know about you?
+ High school diploma required (technical 2-year degree preferred)
+ Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
+ Excellent metal working/welding ability/skills.
+ Excellent mechanical problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
+ Experience reading and interpreting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
+ Must possess knowledge of general metal working shop techniques.
+ Experience with general mechanical equipment, including hydraulic and pneumatic valves, cylinders, pumps, piping, etc.
+ Ability to work alone.
+ Ability to operate machines, hand-tools, and general maintenance tools.
+ Good overall technical maintenance skills.
+ Ability to present issues / opportunities to RFPC staff.
+ Good communication and interaction skills.
What will your typical day look like?
+ Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
+ Work under the direction of the Operations Support Manager to perform a wide variety of metal fabrication/welding jobs including but not limited to platforms, steps, brackets, rebuild existing equipment and other metal working activities.
+ Fully involved in five-day focused TPM activities.
+ Confirm and enhance maintenance App including accurate data, tasks, frequency of PM
+ Divide PM’s and add visual controls for Operator PM’s.
+ Rebuild and install hydraulic, pneumatic, and various mechanical systems to support equipment rebuild projects.
+ Work under direction of Operations Support Manager to build/install engineered redesign of existing equipment and/or startup new equipment.
+ Constantly search for, recommend, and implement repairs or process changes needed to continually improve equipment as measured by reduced downtime, reduced changeover time, increased mean time between failures and reduced time to repair.
+ Perform maintenance work (PMs, other projects) as directed by Operations Support Manager. This can include mechanical work when needed for continuous facility operations.
+ Use three types of welding (TIG, MIG, and Stick) and metal cutting tools (torch, plasma) to fabricate metal assemblies.
+ Understand all equipment, processes, and procedures in facility, which has a very important impact on our ability to effectively serve our customers.
+ Be responsible for safely providing equipment/parts/assemblies that are dependable, repeatable, and available for meeting our customer expectations.
+ Safely operate hand tools, welding machines, and drill presses and other equipment in shop and other manufacturing areas.
+ Understanding of machine tolerances.
+ Ability to use tape measures, micrometers, vernier calipers, taps and die charts, drill charts, and manuals to complete tasks.
+ Perform basic math skills (work with fractions and decimals) to perform tasks.
+ Read and interpret engineering prints as needed to complete a task.
+ Maintain a good working relationship with others at RFPC.
+ Assist plant maintenance on flexible basis.
+ Other duties as assigned by the Operations Support Manager.
+ Provide communication to other departments, as required.
+ Work overtime as needed (weekends and factory shutdown periods).
The hourly range for this role is between $30.00 – $36.00. The actual hourly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
