Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse II will serve as a key member of our multidisciplinary outpatient psychiatric team, specializing in the administration of long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic therapies. In addition to LAI management, this role will actively participate in multiple on‐site in-house clinics (e.g., medication management, health monitoring, wellness clinics) across the center. The nurse will practice as a full partner on the healthcare team and demonstrate safe, evidence-based nursing practice consistent with organizational professional practice models.
The Clinical Nurse II independently provides patient care via the nursing process, accepts accountability for assigned patients, and collaborates with providers, therapists, pharmacists, and support staff to optimize outcomes for our Behavioral Health population.
Key Responsibilities
+ Administer and monitor long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotic medications: prepare, educate patients, screen for contraindications, observe for adverse effects, document and report outcomes.
+ Coordinate with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and case managers to support LAI protocols (e.g., scheduling follow-up doses, tracking adherence, liaising with pharmacies).
+ Serve as a liaison for multiple in-house clinics: support medication follow-up visits, physical health monitoring (vital signs, labs, metabolic screening), wellness and smoking cessation clinics, and behavioral health/physical health integration efforts.
+ Provide comprehensive nursing assessments (physical, psychosocial, educational needs) for psychiatric outpatients, incorporating age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and educational components.
+ Apply evidence-based practice, quality improvement methods, and data monitoring to optimize nursing processes, safety, and patient outcomes
+ Engage in person- and family-centered care: respect patient preferences, partner with patients and families in care planning, provide education and support for self-management.
+ Serve as a resource and mentor for colleagues, contribute to staff education and unit initiatives, and effectively participate in team-based collaboration and shared governance.
+ Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and agency policies (e.g., state RN licensure, BLS certification, medication handling standards).
+ Utilize electronic health records, informatics tools, and technologies to document care, communicate across teams, support clinical decision-making, and mitigate errors (Technology/ Informatics domain).
+ Participate in nursing professional development, scholarship, research, or performance improvement projects as applicable.
+ Serve as a Pharmacy Liaison various pharmacies, most commonly, Pennsylvania Hospital
Qualifications
+ Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Pennsylvania (required).
+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing
+ Minimum of 15 months of relevant professional nursing experience (in psychiatry or outpatient mental health preferred).
+ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per American Heart Association (required).
+ Demonstrated experience in outpatient psychiatric nursing, LAI administration, and patient education/monitoring preferred.
+ Strong clinical judgment, organizational and communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague independently provides patient care through the application of the nursing process and accepts accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients. Assigned patients may range in age from infancy to the elderly. The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague demonstrates within the competency domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork (Definitions listed below). The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on expanding the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age appropriate considerations of assigned patients. The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague seeks feedback in assuming leadership roles and provides feedback for improved clinical practice. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The nurse complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.
