YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Deputy Director, Integrated Strategic Communications – NA Pharmaceuticals (Medical Affairs and Stakeholder Relations Communications) are to:
The Integrated Strategic Communications Lead oversees external and internal communications for Bayer Pharmaceuticals, advancing brand and reputation for medical affairs and stakeholder relations. This role develops and executes communications initiatives as a member of the NA Pharmaceuticals Communications squad. This individual translates complex scientific data and medical advancements into clear, accessible, and compelling narratives for various audiences, including medical affairs, patients, advocacy groups and other key stakeholders. This role is laser focused on delivering 90-day and long-term business outcomes across all areas to enhance the company’s reputation in medical affairs and to build trust and ensure accurate, ethical dissemination of information related to products, pipeline, and therapeutic areas. This role requires a communications professional with a passion for science and a deep understanding of the healthcare industry to effectively shape public perception, ensure trust, and ultimately support the organization’s commitment to patients and medical advancement.
+ Oversees scientific storytelling that includes developing and disseminating accurate and engaging scientific content that resonates with target audiences, advances the pharma narrative and generates positive brand, above brand and thought leadership content in paid, earned, shared and owned channels;
+ Identifies and executes thought leadership opportunities to position the company’s medical experts through media engagements and expert commentary;
+ Establishes and strengthens relationships with healthcare journalists through deep domain expertise of the media landscape focused on medical and scientific-focused topics. Facilitates interviews with internal subject matter experts or key opinion leaders (KOLs);
+ Collaborates with patient advocacy groups and professional societies to raise awareness, share information, and support patient-centric initiatives;
+ Supports public relations activities around key medical conferences and events, including media outreach, press conferences, and scientific presentations;
+ Provides strategic counsel and partnership to business leaders to support positioning the business favorably and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, compliance guidelines, and company policies, in collaboration with medical, legal, and regulatory teams;
+ Interfaces with country leaders and global communications colleagues to pull through relevant global strategies and plans;
+ Establish a measurement program to set/track goals and adjust programming based on results
+ Works in conjunction with corporate communications, legal, medical, regulatory and other relevant teams to manage issues and crises effectively through transparent and timely communication;
+ Monitors media coverage and public sentiment to proactively address potential issues, manage crises, and ensure transparent and timely communication during events like product recalls or safety updates;
+ Tracks and reports on the effectiveness of PR campaigns and media coverage to demonstrate impact and inform future strategies;
+ Serves as member on NA communication squads to deliver on key communications initiatives that support business outcomes across Bayer NA. Initiatives may be in areas such as Brand Execution, Media Relations and Executive Visibility, and Employee Engagement.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
+ Comfortable with medical and science-based content with the ability to understand and simplify complex scientific information for lay audiences;
+ Expertise in the development and implementation of external communications programs, including strategic planning, executive visibility, thought leadership and issues management;
+ Thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements relevant to pharmaceutical communications;
+ Ability to work collaboratively across functions, departments and divisions within a matrixed structure to achieve business results;
+ Strong writer who can take complex medical and scientific information and produce clear, compelling, and motivating communications quickly for various stakeholders;
+ Media relations experience;
+ Excellent oral presentation and influence skills;
+ A record of success and experience in advising and influencing executive-level leaders;
+ Thinks strategically and executes at a high level to support our fast-moving and nimble organization and people-focused culture;
+ A pleasure to work with, highly collaborative, inventive and a self-starter;
+ Results focused and regularly considers measurement to drive comms effectiveness;
+ Manages ambiguity well, viewing it as an opportunity vs a challenge;
+ Flexible with the ability to shift gears quickly and seamlessly as business and stakeholder needs require;

+ Proficiency with digital communications and social media strategies and tools to increase employee engagement;

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or similar field. An advanced degree in communications or public health;
+ 10-14 years’ experience with proven record of developing and executing strategic corporate communications programs in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare industry with a focus on external communications, product communications and reputation management.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $137,007 to $205,510. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
