    GENERAL DUTIES

    - Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

     

    - There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as

     

    needed.

     

    - Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

     

    - Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,

     

    operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,

     

    act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

     

    - Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.

     

    - Acts as cashier.

     

    - Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

     

    - Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.

     

    - Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

     

    - Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

     

    - May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

The Graduate Center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences.

     

    The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni-who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City's intellectual and cultural life.

     

    The Ph.D. Program in Economics is seeking a College Assistant to assist the Assistant Program Officer (APO), Executive Officer, and Deputy Executive Officers. Reporting to the APO, the College Assistant will carry out all the duties necessary to maintain optimal efficiency in the operation of the Economics Program. This role is for 712 hours for the current fiscal year (through June 30, 2026) and 1040 hours per year thereafter for 20 hours per week.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    - Assist with setting up for events, i.e. seminars, alumni day, meetings, Recruitment, high-level executive conferences with board members

     

    -Handle AV, catering, and facilities requests

     

    -Assist with Social media presence for the program and brand building for CUNY

     

    -Assist with conducting course evaluation and processing related data

     

    -Assist with processing registrar forms for faculty, student, and prospective students

     

    -Assist with alumni and recruitment outreach and relations

     

    -Search for and contact alumni through social networks, and assist in the development of our alumni database

     

    -Participate in the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, assist with related tasks

     

    -Assist with proctoring First, Second, and Final Exams as needed

     

    -Provide backup coverage to APO as needed

     

    -Perform other duties as assigned

     

    This position is in-person, and the incumbent will work on site.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    - Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Some college attendance is a plus

    • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to exercise discretion and make informed judgment decisions in the practice ofadministrative duties

    • Excellent computer skills (Mac and PC), word processing (MSWord), Adobe Acrobat, anddatabase(Excel) skills

    • Excellent clerical skills (i.e. filing organization and attention to detail)

    COMPENSATION

    $20 per hour

    CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
