    Job Title: Torch Cutter** **Job Description

     

    We have an immediate contract opening for a torch cutter at a large manufacturer of pipes, valves, and flanges. The role involves working in the pipe yard under a covered open-air area, where you will handle undesirable materials by cutting heat trace numbers off for scrap using an oxyacetylene/flame torch. You will move parts to different scrap heaps for proper disposal. The materials consist of various pipes, elbows, fittings, couplings, and more.

    Responsibilities

    + Use an oxyacetylene/flame torch to cut out squares of material containing heat trace numbers.

    + Move parts to different scrap heaps for proper disposal.

    + Coordinate with truck drivers and vendors in English and Spanish.

    + Handle heavy fabricated materials and operate heavy forklifts.

    + Perform general labor tasks including inventory management, shipping, and receiving.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience with torch cutting using oxyacetylene/flame torches.

    + Metal cutting experience.

    + Experience in manufacturing or as a welder helper.

    + Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Bilingual in English and Spanish.

    + Experience with pipe, valve, or flange materials.

    + Familiarity with part numbers and inventory management.

    + Experience in shipping and receiving.

    Work Environment

    The job is based in a 20-acre pipe yard, requiring comfort with walking through the area. The environment is non-climate controlled, and the role involves working outside, which can get hot during summer. The pipe yard office includes around 15 people, mainly material handlers. The position is on the first shift, typically from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with potential for extended hours depending on the schedule. The role requires working 40+ hours per week until all pieces are scrapped, with possibilities for longer hours as production increases.

    This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
