We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer III to join us and help us continue our work towards designing and creating the best possible solutions to meet the evolving needs of our global customers.

    What You’ll Work On

     

    This position will work in the environmental research product development group on new sensor design and product maintenance of infrared gas analyzer and ultrasonic products.

     

    The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and testing of electronic instrumentation and measurement systems. Design work will likely include 3D machining, sheet metal, plastic molding, optics, fluids, and gas flow. Responsibilities include the selection and definition for materials, processes, mounting, packaging, analysis (thermal, vibration, etc.), and other mechanical issues arising in the design of electronic instrumentation and measurement systems.

     

    You’ll Support Your Team by Performing the Following Key Tasks

     

    + Create and maintain a strong culture in accordance with Campbell Scientific’s core ARCTIC values -- Accountable, Respectful, Client-Centric, Team-Oriented, Innovative, Continually Improving

    + Design Engineering

    + Design new products using sheet metal, metal machining, plastics, optics, fluids, gases, etc.

    + Maintain existing products with design updates and improvements.

    + Analyze designs for thermal, flow, vibration, structure, etc.

    + Design manufacturing processes and integrating with existing manufacturing processes.

    + Verification and validation testing of components and systems.

    + Develop documentation for parts and processes.

     

    What We're Looking For

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Preference for a master’s degree.

    + 3 years of experience in product development.

    + Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills and creativity.

    + Excellent time management.

    + Required skill subjects:

    + 3D Modeling

    + Thermodynamics

    + Fluid mechanics

    + General physics

    + Additional preferred skill subjects:

    + Gas physics

    + Infrared optics

    + Electro-optics

    + Spectroscopy

    + Fourier analysis

    + Digital signal processing

    + Ultrasonic acoustics

    + Materials science

    + Optical simulation software

    + Advanced machining techniques

     

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

     

    + Permanent remote work is not an option for this position.

    + Must be able to travel occasionally (domestic or international).

    + Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Occasional field work may be expected requiring minor lifting and outdoor exposure.
