    Job Title: Distribution Engineering I

    Job Description

    The Distribution Engineering I role involves supporting various activities related to the design and construction of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. This position operates under the supervision of a technical lead and primarily handles projects ranging from 4kV to 138kV. These projects are mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.

    + Comply with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.

    + Travel to sites for inspections and return to the office for engineering design work.

    + Perform engineering calculations like structural analysis for wood pole loading and guying calculations.

    + Specify conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans.

    + Calculate voltage drop and flicker.

    + Develop permitting documents for different Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

    + Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews.

    + Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation strategies using engineering principles.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

    + 0-1 years of relevant experience.

    + Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and Maximo.

    + Knowledge of distribution design, power distribution, and utility design.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, SOCKET, or similar.

    + Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.

    + Familiarity with NESC and design standards.

    + Interest in developing work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects.

    + Ability to work in both field and office settings.

    Work Environment

    The position is on-site, requiring work in both field and office environments. Selected candidates will be trained in customer engineering and construction standards, gaining experience in coordination of conflicting utilities, field engineering design requirements, design packages for complex cable/conduit projects, work permit development, easements and ROW applications, and the design of mainline vault medium voltage switchgear, network system design, and distribution system protection and coordination.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilmington, NC.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $29.81 - $29.81/hr.
