Job Title: Phlebotomist - ArlingtonJob Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

+ Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, and collect other specimens such as urine or fecal samples as required.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

+ Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.

+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.

+ Follow procedures outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

+ Attend annual department training sessions.

+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

+ Phlebotomy certification

+ At least 2 years of experience in phlebotomy

+ Experience with blood draws and primary care

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Minimum of 1 year of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting

+ High School Diploma or GED

Work Environment

This position is within a primary care setting with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The phlebotomist will handle approximately 20 patients per day.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
