Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in Fort Bragg, NC. Responsibilities Serve as a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic engaged in performing a variety of repairs, maintenance, adjustments, modifications, inspections, and preventive maintenance on equipment, systems, and facilities. Serve as operator and repairman in charge of the facility utility plant with shift responsibility on a regular and recurring basis. Repair, troubleshoot, maintain and install heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment and auxiliary mechanisms. Install, repair, and maintain a complex plumbing system to include welding gases; compressed air and vacuum systems; domestic hot and cold-water piping and hot water circulating systems. Work on industrial electronic and mechanical systems with highly complex electronic sensing and controls. Perform minor preventive maintenance type repairs to asphalt floor tile, including conductive vinyl floors in operating suite. Test electrical and electronic circuitry and devices for compliance with current code requirements of electrical leakage. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common repairs on a variety of equipment and systems (e.g., refrigeration and air conditioning, plumbing, and pipefitting, heating, electrical, electronics, kitchen). I can operate auxiliary equipment (e.g., water heaters and pumps, forced and induced draft fans, and derating equipment); and 2) Perform work in accordance with blueprints and specification to complete assignments. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Works in close and cramped positions, lifting, climbing, stooping, crawling, and bending. Works both inside and outside, as required. Subject to electrical shock, burns from steam and hot water pipes, bruises when working between floor and ceiling close places. Works primarily inside and occasionally outside. Is subject to danger from boiler explosion, vapor locks, carbon monoxide poisoning, scalds, and oil fumes. Subject to general hazards associated with plan operations such as cuts, burns, bruises, and other bodily injuries. Must wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations and SOPs. Uses hand tools of several trades, power tools, shop tools, and is responsible for safe and proper use of tools and equipment; also, for observing safety rules and regulations to prevent injury and accidents. Subject to high and low temperature and extreme noise situations. Works in confined spaces. Works directly with caustic solutions, fibrous materials (some containing fiberglass), raw sewage, and occasionally assists in high-voltage repairs and maintenance. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Recruitment incentives may be authorized. Relocation incentives may be authorized. Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service may be authorized. Credit for Prior Non-Federal Work Experience and Certain Military Service for Determining Annual Leave Accrual Rate may be authorized.
