Job Description:
**50% Instructional Technology Pool Duties** :
+ Supervise check-out and check-in of film equipment
+ Hire, train, and supervise student hourly workers
+ Manage reservation schedules, procedures and databases for equipment check-out
+ Keep strict records of student enrollment, training, and contracts supporting all production classes
+ Coordinate technology maintenance and repairs
+ In consultation with faculty and staff, make recommendations for process improvements and equipment needs
+ Maintain a complete, accurate and up-to-date inventory of all FMS equipment
**25% Instructional and Classroom Support** :
+ Coordinate with faculty on classroom instructional technology needs
+ Maintain and instruct students on software including Adobe Creative Suite, Pro Tools, Toon Boom and other helper applications
+ Assist and instruct students in soundstage and recording studio usage
+ Assist in maintenance and enhancement of production spaces including sound stage, recording studio, production classroom, animation classroom
**25% Technology and Production Support** :
+ Instruct faculty and students in use of video, audio, and film equipment available from the Instructional Technology Pool.
+ Assist department, faculty, staff, and service center clients in producing film shoots and other productions on soundstage and in recording studio
+ Assist faculty, staff, and students in troubleshooting problems with equipment, editing, production and audio issues.

Required Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma/GED with two years of experience in the management of film, video, and or editing equipment and software.
2. Previous experience that required strong interpersonal communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in film/tv/arts or related field, or equivalent professional experience
2. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Apple computers, Microsoft suite, as evidenced by application materials.
3. Familiarity with theatrical lighting systems, as evidenced by application materials.
4. Previous experience working with wide-ranging populations, as evidenced by application materials.
Position Overview:
The Film & Media Studies Department at the University of Kansas is seeking to fill an AV Technician position to oversee operations of the equipment pool. The person holding this position supports clients (faculty, staff, and students) by checking out film, video and audio equipment in support of classroom instruction and productions across all production courses offered through FMS. This person also supports departmental events and programming.
The AV Technician will be responsible for the effective operation of the equipment room and will assist in supporting all FMS classrooms and production spaces, including but not limited to the sound stage, recording studio, animation and computer labs.
The person in this position will be responsible for managing reservation schedules, procedures and databases for equipment check out, as well as keeping strict records of student enrollment, training and contracts supporting all production courses. The AV Technician will work closely with faculty to coordinate on classroom and instructional technology needs for the department. The person holding this position will hire, supervise and train student hourly employees in furtherance of these tasks. Experience with film & video production equipment is required. Familiarity with editing software, audio recording, and knowledge of theatrical lighting systems is preferred.
