ABOUT THE JOB:
Oversees lake operations at one of the Department of Parks & Recreation's two regional lakes (Castaic Lake, in Castaic, and Frank G. Bonelli Lake in San Dimas) and provides administrative and technical direction to water safety and lake lifeguard personnel.
Essential Job Functions
Directs a large permanent and seasonal staff; evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors and reviews the performance evaluations of all staff; handles grievances at the second level and resolves disciplinary problems.
Reviews budget requests from subordinate supervisors for conformance to departmental policy and instructions; insures equitable and efficient distribution of resources; compiles and justifies budget to the park superintendent.
Inspects lake aquatic facilities to ensure continuing conformance to departmental standards regarding health and safety, staff efficiency, and responsiveness of lifeguarding and boat patrol services to emergencies; directs and counsels subordinate supervisors to correct deficiencies noted.
Responds to major emergency calls in the park; organizes and directs staff response to such incidents as water contamination, brush or boat fires and accidents involving such support agencies as fire, paramedics, police or coroner to call for assistance and directs appropriate activities until their arrival.
Directs and supervises the development and implementation of all training programs for staff in such subjects as boat handling and underwater recovery; selects staff members to prepare and conduct training programs and reviews results.
Supervises or conducts the investigation of serious accidents at the lake; reviews reports for indications of negligence or faulty equipment and directs or recommends correction.

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
One year's experience providing administrative and technical supervision* of lifeguards and boat operations in a lake, or ocean environment at the level of Supervising Lake Lifeguard.**

LICENSE:
EMT-1 Certificate*** of Completion.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
3 - Moderate.- I ncludes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
* Supervising includes responsibility for scheduling work shifts, approving time off, and writing formal evaluations of work performance.
** At the level of a Supervising Lake Lifeguard is defined as providing administrative and technical supervision to lake lifeguards and senior lake lifeguards assigned to boat patrol and shoreline duties on a year-round basis. At the level of: You may still qualify even if your job title isn’t the same as the ones listed. Your experience must be at a similar level with similar responsibilities.
*** In order to receive credit for possessing an EMT-1 Certificate of completion, you must include a legible copy of the certificate at the time of filing or within 10 business days from the filing end date . VETERAN'S CREDIT:
Veterans may be eligible for Veteran's Credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. In order to be considered for Veteran's Credit, we will need a copy of the applicant's form DD214 to review. A clear, legible scan or picture the form DD214 must be uploaded to the application or e-mailed to the exam analyst at [email protected] ([email protected]) as soon as possible so, if you are eligible for veteran's credit, we can include it before promulgating the list of eligible candidates.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of a structured interview. This assessment will evaluate supervision, training, policies, and health and water safety.
The assessment is weighted 100% of your total score.Applicant MUST meet the requirements AND achieve the passing score of 70% or higher to be placed on the eligible list.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Candidates who pass the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months.
