    Job Description

    Our team is responsible for the development of CoStar’s recommendation systems, personalization features, and user behavior analytics across our consumer marketplaces, including Homes.com, Apartments.com, and LoopNet. These systems help users discover relevant properties, understand market trends, and engage more deeply with our products.

     

    We are searching for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design and deliver scalable data systems that drive personalized experiences and user analytics across our marketplaces. In this role, you’ll partner with our Machine Learning team, building the data foundations that power recommendation engines, personalization models, and future AI-driven innovations across our high-traffic consumer marketplaces.

     

    This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of large-scale data engineering and applied machine learning, shaping the systems behind personalized experiences for millions of users.

     

    This position is located in San Diego (UTC Area) and is in office Monday through Thursday with work from home on Friday.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Design, build, test, and deploy scalable, reusable, and maintainable data platforms capable of processing large volumes of data

    + Take full ownership of deliverables, from development and testing through deployment and ongoing production support

    + Collaborate with machine learning engineers to design data pipelines and infrastructure that support model training, deployment, and real-time inference at scale.

    + Work closely with engineering peers, product owners, designers, and leadership to deliver impactful solutions

    + Serve as a trusted contributor in technical architecture, design decisions, and code reviews

    + Champion continuous improvement, driving both technical and non-technical enhancements within the team

    + Explore emerging technologies, tools, and best practices to keep solutions innovative and efficient

    + Develop a deep understanding of CoStar’s business and products, ensuring alignment with strategic goals

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Bachelor's degree required from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university

    + A track record of commitment to prior employers

    + 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development, delivering high-quality solutions

    + Expertise in Data Engineering, with strong proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL

    + Solid foundation in Object-Oriented Programming principles and best practices

    + Demonstrated success in building and launching data-driven products operating at terabyte scale

    + Ability to translate technical requirements into robust architectures, data models, and ETL strategies

    + Practical experience with cloud-based databases, including both relational and non-relational systems

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Hands-on experience or familiarity with big data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake

    + Proficiency with cloud platforms, including AWS or Azure

    + Experience working with NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB) and object storage systems (e.g., Amazon S3)

    + Practical knowledge of event streaming technologies, especially Kafka

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex technical challenges

    + Experience leveraging AWS compute and container services for scalable solutions

    This position offers a base salary range of $146,900 – $190,000 based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous benefits plan.
