Description
The Division of Cardiology at The Heart Institute, Stony Brook University Hospital, seeks a full-time academic Heart Failure/VAD cardiologist (Assistant or Associate or Full Professor levels) to join our expanding cardiovascular program. This position offers a robust and flexible mix of inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities within a major university-based Heart Institute. Clinical efforts, areas of focus, and academic activities will be tailored to align with individual strengths, subspecialty interests, and long-term career goals. This role also offers a complete academic commitment with support to establish or participate in translational, clinical, and/or basic science research.
We are seeking a high-potential advanced heart failure/MCS cardiologist ready to grow into a key leadership role within a mature Joint Commission-certified program. You will be part of a collegial, innovative, nationally recognized and award-winning faculty committed to excellence in patient care, mentoring, and teaching. We serve a population of 1.7 million people in Suffolk County, with additional patients from the tri-state region. Stony Brook University Hospital has been ranked among the top 100 Hospitals for cardiac care by Healthgrades since 2016.
• Work alongside nationally recognized experts in advanced heart failure, VAD, MCS, CardioOncology and CardioObstetrics. The Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center supports programs of excellence in cardio-oncology, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-obstetrics, sports cardiology and a second opinion program in advanced cardiac disease with award-winning programs in interventional, structural cardiology, and electrophysiology.
• Joint Commission-certified Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy program (2013-present).
• Joint Commission-certified Mechanical Circulatory Assist Device program (2011-present).
• You will join a program with strong surgical partners, expanding referral base, and institutional backing to increase VAD, shock, and advanced HF volumes, with clear opportunities to shape program strategy. An individualized development plan will align your clinical focus (MCS, shock, transplant evaluation, cardio-oncology, imaging, outcomes research) with mentorship, leadership roles, and promotion criteria. Candidates will have access to tremendous division-supported infrastructure for clinical trials, outcomes research, and implementation science, with mentorship for early-career funding and support for national speaking and committee roles.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be an ambitious and kind physician who enjoys seeing patients and is committed to contributing to the growth and long-term goals of the Heart Institute. MD, DO or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent). Board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible/board certified in Cardiovascular disease and/or Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology with expertise in heart failure and ventricular assist device management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and excellence in clinical subspecialty care, educational initiatives or cardiovascular research. We also particularly welcome early-career candidates from advanced heart failure/VAD fellowships who are ready to build a national profile in MCS, shock, or HF outcomes with strong institutional support.
