    Overview

What a time to join Microsoft! The **Office of the Chief Economist, Corporate Vice President,** works across the company to pursue commercial value using economics and data science. Examples of our work include algorithms that grow Microsoft’s cloud revenue and resource efficiency; some of the first-ever studies of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) changes the way that people work; and market design for software resellers.

We are looking for a **Data Engineer** with broad technical skills, communication finesse, and the ability to quickly prototype proof-of-concept web apps. You will work alongside world-class colleagues on high-visibility projects answering some of Microsoft’s most pressing challenges. You will support your team through reliable data pipelines, data quality monitoring, and good MLops practices.

We operate primarily on Microsoft Fabric, using Spark, python, and SQL. Some of us use R for analysis, others write fully fledged Batch jobs or prototype webapps in typescript. Given the cross-cutting nature of our work, we often need to merge data from different sources and datalake generations. You will have substantial freedom in choosing the best tools to get the job done.

**Successful candidates** plan ahead to build dependable pipelines and infrastructure. They can explain complexity and find pragmatic shortcuts without jeopardizing overall architecture. They enjoy learning not just about ways to move data around, but also what the data means. They collaborate with data scientists and economists to deliver impact, whether through one-off decision support for high-stakes business decisions or through innovating new apps and processes.

Our **team values** entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and continuous learning. You will be able to shape and grow a positive and productive data engineering culture.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively impact our culture every day.
